How Do Rich People Prevent Their Kids From Being Spoiled Or Arrogant ?
Hello ! steemain's
I feel like I need to write a book for this answer. But here are the basics.
- You just don't buy anything they want; you have to make them earn it.
- You encourage them to make money on their own to buy what they want. This makes them value the money they make.
- As a parent you don't get involved yourself in wealth displays. Kids learn from you, the good and bad.
- Gradually upgrade their life style from poor to middle class. Some parents went through these phases but their kids didn't, so you have to manufacture the experience for them to teach survival in any class.
- Your wealth is not for granted. If they are not successful on their own, you tell them they don't get to inherit your money. Or make them think you will spend it all in your retirement. Or that you actually lost it all.
- You make them aware of the value of money by small tricks like going to the supermarket and telling them the budget and give them the shopping list and letting them to pick and choose. Then reward them if they come back with extra, to buy with the extra whatever they want.
Those are useful tips for wealthy parents. If enough is not done at the right time, you can end up with kids who know the price of many things but not their value. I read a saying some time ago that fits with this theme: Give your kids enough so that they will do something; not too much that they will do nothing.
