Pros and Cons of Today at Work
On the Con side of things, we said a bittersweet farewell to a wonderful Education Assistant who is moving on to a better opportunity. She worked with a challenging but great child in my classroom and he responded well to her. She will be missed.
On the Pro side, I tried a new way of teaching math with the class and they rocked it. The hands-on learning works great with my kids and having manipulatives to use was a brilliant stroke. Especially the kids that have some challenges in math responded well. I need to do more with this teaching/learning style.
The whole day just seemed to move nicely and it was a great way to wind down the week (tomorrow is a pro-D) for the kids. They also made farewell cards for our EA and we gave her a box of chocolates. It’s going to be a rough adjustment for my student to a new EA but he has a lot of support in the classroom and, after three months, has finally warmed up to me. We’ll see how it goes and keep an eye on him to make sure things are smooth for him and the new EA but confidence is high right now.
