Condemn the Crime, Not the Person. Should we?

Tangney's excerpt shows how the shame cannot be used as a sentence after a broad range of nonviolent crimes. She explains her point establishing some differences between shame and guilt. Other counterclaims that she is exposing in her essay are the sense caused by each feeling; Shame focusses in humiliation and the guilty feeling focus on an individual action made by the person and in this way can be taught the good and bad actions. Taugney's words seem to be based on her environment, also she mentions some research and specific evidence but she didn't define which investigation and where that has been told.

When it comes to talk about fallacies, can be observed on the eighth paragraph when she mentions that the shamed people deny their responsibility, and can produce destructive actions; this seems to be a simplification fallacy, because the psychology is a really complex science, it lacks explanation and just mentionating that this could happen can end as a fallacy. But in the case of the writing the main purpose is not to teach the defensive mechanism of the person, instead of it, the essay published in the newspaper "Boston Globe" she pretends to show that the shame is not a good option as a punishment for anyone, because all that the shame produce are the sense of being less and without power as a person. And like she says at the end "constructed guilt-oriented community service sentences are more likely to foster changes in offenders' future".
