An Unnerving Visit to the Animal Clinic

in #life7 years ago (edited)

If you’ve read any of my previous posts, you may be aware that I have an adorable tri-coloured little cat called Mini.

I have been pretty worried for her recently as she has been vomited at least twice for the past three days. I hear it is quite common for cats to throw up on occasion when they eat too fast or ingest something that doesn’t agree with them, i.e. grass from the garden.

But it has gone on a little longer than I’d like, although Mini still seemed bright and alert. So, I decided to take her to have a check-up with the vet this weekend.

If you’ve ever owned a cat, you probably know that getting them into a cage can be such a mission! After a few squeals and howls, she was safely inside, ready to make her way to the clinic.

As you can see, she was very depressed and stressed when in the Cage. Poor thing! (see images):

Shortly afterwards we arrived at the vet. Mini was seen to by an excellent vet called Dr. Anne. She was very jovial and pleasant, coaxing Mini out of the cage and taking time with her getting familiar with the new surroundings. She then went through various rountine checks to ascertain her overall health, like eye and teeth examinations, taking her body temperature, etc.

I was told that Mini was over-weight! She weighed 4.98kg, however based on her age and type, she should be around 4kg. A stricter diet was to be implemented with immediate effect which consisted of low-fat sachets of food as well as cutting down on the actual quantity per day. Sorry Mini, but it’s for the best!

Doctor Anne did find Mini to be generally quite healthy overall though so the most likely cause was a stomach bug or something similar. She gave Mini an injection to prevent her being sick again and gave me a few pouches of veterinary diet chicken & rice (the “Royal Canin” brand) to feed Mini for the next couple of days and monitor how she feels for the next several days.

When we took Mini home, she meowd almost continuously the whole way and even attempted to push the cage door open with her paws and nose! A few minutes later when we arrived back home, she scampered out of her cage and could finally relax again. I was playing with her for half an hour and treated her to some little cats snacks (the last treat before dieting begins). Mini was happy once more and my friend once again, lol.

The total vet bill came up to £87.96, which is slightly over the odds for our area but the level of service is absolutely faultless. I have to say that animal treatment in the UK of the highest standard. Hopefully this will lead to the end of Mini’s woes and she will recover very soon back to her normal self again.

Poor little thing. I hope she will feel better soon @rea! Trevor also dislikes going to the vet, like they can sense trouble.

Awwww, thanks @exyle. She's doing much better but still not eating right. I'll keep monitoring her though. Trevor looks very cute!

Little kitty looks quite alert. I'm sure she'll get better and the £90 will be worth it.

Thanks @ace108, I hope so too.
Having a pet is a big responsibility, hehe.
