This future motorbike makes the helmet obsolete
This is how BMW imagines the motorcycle of the future. For the 100 year anniversary, the motorcycle designers of the group designed the "Vision Next 100". This future vision of the designers from Munich / Germany was recently shown in Los Angeles.

The moto: "think 30 years ahead". As futuristic as this study is, there are also nostalgic aspects.

The black triangle frame should cite the R32, the first BMW motorcycle of 1923. This was the time where the former aircraft engine manufacturer had nothing to do with the car production.

The technology of tomorrow feeds the longing for the good old days with biker stereotypes. The "perfect unity of man and machine" should "escape from everyday life", chief designer Edgar Heinrich says. The moto of this study: "The great Escape". For the "absolute freedom" the renounce of the helmet should be a sign. How is that possible?

Very simple, the bike is stabilised by its own, with the help of several assistance systems. A drop of the vehicle is not possible, claims BMW, not even in standing when the driver already has left the bike.

One of the technical gimmicks is the flexible frame, called "Flexframe" by BMW. When you ride the bike, the whole frame deforms, this should make the motorbike even more agile. The faster the bike runs the more rigid the frame gets.

The protection clothing could be eliminated in the future. BMW designed their own biker clothes to support the feeling of freedom. The suit can cool, ventilate or heat the body as needed.

If the helmet is eliminated at least a wind protection for the eyes is needed. This visor is able for more. The data goggles is the real concession to the digital age. But nothing more...
BMW designer Holger Hampf stressed: "the ever present digitality doesn't interfere with the driving experience". Who looks straight, sees only the road. Depending on the viewing height, important data as the ideal curve line, a rearview mirror or the map can be displayed. Although most vehicles will drive autonomously in 30 years, this motorbike should be the contrast alternative with full control for the driver, as long as he doesn't drive too dangerous.

Aware analog is the red handle which enables or disables the throttle. Just a moment, a throttle?

In the form of the classic boxer engine hides a natural, emission free drive unit. Is the motorcycle of the future electrically powered? From battery or charger cable is nothing to see...
BMW has committed itself to carbon fibers as a body material. In the field of car manufactoring this material did not win the battle against steel until today.

The design of the taillights show that the formal language of today will also have its place in decades. Design chief Heinrich feels "the best of the digital and the analog world combined".

Personal note: It sounds of much freedom to me, but I would be sceptical to drive it without a helmet...

Looks a bit different than these 2 beauties of mine, quite an evolution!
Your two bikes are as great as the new study - I like your's more personally!
Yes, this future study is impressive but would you like to drive such a bike..?
Haha, so cool!
That's a cool bike
Of course it is, but I would not feel safety enough without wearing a helmet (old thinking guy...).
