Today my topic is on one of the Indian real hero (Freedom Fighter) “Alluri Sita Rama Raju”, he was born on July 4, 1897 at Vishakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, India. Alluri Sita Rama Raju was an Indian revolutionary whose association with Indian freedom struggle movement from South India is quite well known. He was the leader of "Rampa Rebellion" of 1922-1924 against British Raj. Local people often address him as "Manyam Veerudu", which literally means ‘hero of the Jungles’. But he was trapped and killed by British, thus bringing an end to "Rampa Rebellion”.

Though the early childhood days of Raju don’t have a clear record, it’s believed that Raju was born on July 4, 1897 in Pandrangi village in the Visakhapatnam district. His father, a native of Mogallu, near Bhimavaram was an official photographer in the central jail at Rajahmundry. The young Raju lived mainly in Mogallu. His primary education was done at the Vullithota Bangarayya School, Rajahmundry. Later he studied at different schools of East Godavari district. He lost his father during his childhood. Later he was took care off by his uncle, Rama Chandra Raju, a tehsildar in Narsapur. Later he moved to Tuni and Visakhapatnam with his mother and two siblings. He was a college drop out.

Meanwhile 1882 Madras Forest Act was passed which restricted the tribal people from engaging in their traditional "Podu" agricultural system. Under Raju’s leadership tribal people rose against British and they started their agitations from East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts in the early 1920’s. The protests became prominent in 1922 and it later came to be known as Rampa Rebellion. Raju and his followers stole guns and ammunition and killed many British army officers. British brought in more army forces and by this time Raju went underground.

The rebellion was continued under the leadership of Gam Mallu Dora and Gantam Dora. After British campaign that lasted for nearly a year, Raju was trapped and shot dead in Mampa village on May 7, 1924. Gam Mallu Dora too was caught and the tribal people lost their momentum.
