Why people are more prone to negative thinking about creative ideas

in #life3 years ago

What is the genuine importance of innovation in today's society, and how does it differ from previous generations? People commonly express the belief that more innovative individuals and ideas are required. Is it true that they are sincere in their demands for assistance?

Teachers, for example, frequently detest kids who are imaginative. Students that are innovative, according to a study conducted by Westby and Dawson in 1995, are the least appreciated by primary school teachers. Obviously, this is not a result of this study; in general, creative children dislike obeying rules, and as a result, they naturally create chaos in the classroom.

There is a great deal of discussion about creativity in business and academia, but there is also a great deal of proof of overt creativity in these two professions as well. Even while the leaders of the organisations claim to be on the lookout for new ideas, we notice that creativity is being rejected in the sake of conformity and routine.

The discrepancy between what individuals say about creativity and what they truly believe about it without realising it was investigated by Mueller and his colleagues in a study conducted in 2011. The purpose of this study is to measure overt and covert racism, as well as latent or unconscious biases against creativity, using a standard examination.

When people are still unsure after the studies, Mueller and his team are there to help.

More prone to have negative thoughts about creative ideas and to have difficulty spotting them than the general population.
According to these findings, people dislike new ideas because they create uncertainty. It follows a train of thought that says, "We know how to get things done, we've done it before," but that anything new is "weird." So, what is the best way to go about it? Is it going to be possible? "What could possibly go wrong?" you might wonder.

People do not like being in a state of uncertainty, thus we attempt to avoid these situations as much as possible. As a result, because we are aiming to do something that has never been done before, uncertainty is an inevitable by-product of creativity. Coming up with a truly original thought becomes increasingly harder the more insecure individuals get. In order to avoid feeling the uncertainty, we as a society continue to bury our heads in the sand and carry on with our routines as we have for the past many decades.

Overall, we must acknowledge that we are in a condition of volatility and uncertainty; only in this way will we be convinced that we are embarking on a fresh endeavour.
