Birdhouses (English/Turkish)

in #life6 years ago

Birds represent freedom, well-being, and beauty in most cultures. We respect them for achieving the flying action we can't do without a tool. It is pleasant that they are light, their movements are elegant, they have a soft feather, and their hearts are beating too fast. Birds are the creatures that most people love.

The birds have a special place in Turkish Islamic Culture. From the beginning of the 16th century, birdhouses have been established in structures such as mosques, madrasahs, and libraries.

Birdhouses are a kind of nest to protect from cold and wind for the dove and sparrows who cannot go to hot countries in winter. Although some of these architectural buildings, usually made of brick, tile, and stone, survived to the present day, wood samples were destroyed as a result of fires. Birdhouses are also called bird palace or bird mentions.

Birdhouses were built as high as possible to protect birds from predators. When deciding which side of building the birdhouse would be constructed, factors such as the direction of the wind and the angle of the sun were taken into consideration.

We can separate the birdhouses into two classes. The first is the houses and chambers carved into the stone. This birdhouse type is found on the front walls of large mosques such as the Blue Mosque, Süleymaniye Mosque.

The second is built on a console mounted to the wall, made from materials such as wood, marble, brick, plaster.

Cengiz Bektas wrote the only book written on the subject and published in 1996. The Book "Birdhouses" is in English and Turkish.

I want to give a final example of these magnificent works of the Ottoman Empire.

While writing this article, I wondered if the concept of a birdhouse or bird palace was specific to the Turks. I have studied birdhouse designs made in various parts of the world over the internet. In other cultures, I did not come across birdhouses mounted on the walls of buildings. However, I found birdhouses built to be put in gardens or hanged on trees. The samples I found were not as sophisticated as those in Istanbul, but they were cute.

The first examples are from France. I liked these elegant minimalist designs.

I thought there might be birdhouses in Iran with original designs. It was right.

Human beings are full of contradictions. Sometimes they can be fierce, selfish and destructive. Sometimes they can be very thoughtful and merciful. Birdhouses reflect the bright side of humanity.

so beautiful pics

I had a life changing experience with a bird which I posted in my Bird Story. It has made me look at things and possibilities differently. I really love you sharing the pics and your insights. The bird story was my first post and for one of the tags I put 'birds' not knowing to check if that category existed. It would be nice to have one, the comments to this post show not only an understanding but an openness to learning at a deeper level. I am sure there were many reasons for having such elaborate birdhouses in days of old. Thank you very much!

Incredible, I did not know that these mosques had this type of aviaries and as you say in any culture there are examples of this type, you can appreciate the love and respect that this culture had for these birds. excellent article.

I love these Turkish bird houses that are built onto the buildings. They have such great detail and character. I have never seen anything like these before.

Every bird that could live in a condominium like this, I think I would be very happy, I have always dreamed of living in a house, but I live in a very high apartment and it is difficult for me to have a small garden, but if I could have one, I think The first thing I would do would be to have a house for birds like this one that appears in the photo. very beautiful every house you sample.

i just bought my apartment

I live in an apartment too :)

Lovely article, very positive. Thanks for making me smile :)
All those bird houses are very interesting, especially that they can have so many looks! I've not seen a comparison like this of them before

Photos are very attractive, those old things made in traditional style appear to be very attractive at present.Thank you @muratkbesiroglu for sharing beautiful images.

Wow, those birds house look great. If i were to build one for a bird, i will surely go for the united state birdhouse type. I guess that one look more preferrable and beautiful for me. They all look great and beautiful. Thanks for sharing this with us
