This emotion, sensation, fulfillment is the keystone of life. And yet many people pass by without even knowing it.
In this first part, we will try to understand people's vision of happiness.
Each individual has an individual perception of happiness, but in reality there is not only one true happiness?

The different perceptions of happiness

When we talk about happiness and ask someone to define it, the answers are quite different.
We find, according to the social class, but also according to the family past, or lived of the subjects, a different vision.
If we were to classify happiness, we could put it, always according to the individuals in several boxes.

  • Family fulfillment
  • Professional success
  • spiritual
  • individual
  • sporty or artistic
  • etc ...

In these boxes, several could mix with each other, or focus only on one of the boxes ...
For example :

  • A person who succeeds in his family circle and who has a good professional situation, could talk about a successful life and claim happiness.

  • A religious having faith so a vision traced of happiness could also claim to have found the latter.

  • An artist accomplished and recognized in his art, but having an unstable family life, is it selfish happiness.

There are countless different cases that may think rightly or wrongly to have achieved happiness.
Let's try to define if happiness can be the same for all, and if each one of us can hope to reach it.

Happiness can not be bought ...

Take the example of two people who are radically opposed socially and who we will call MR A and MR B.

MR A, comes from a wealthy family, he has done major studies that take him to run the family business. This company is powerful and recognized by all, it has many employees and generates big annual profits; she is prosperous.
MR has spent a lot of time developing it to be more competitive and innovative.
Married and father of two, he sees these very little time in the week. MR Spend a lot of time in the office and only a short time for family recreation.
If you ask MR A, if he is happy and if he thinks he has achieved happiness. He will answer you that yes, that he has succeeded, that he is fulfilled in his life.

MR B lives in the countryside with his wife and these two children, he is a town hall employee.
Every Sunday he plays with his friends in football, the rest of these hobbies are spent with family and at a lower cost.
His wife does not work, they live on 1 salary and have trouble finishing the months.
If you ask MR B, if he is happy and thinks he has achieved happiness, what will he say to you?

It is interesting to ask with an external vision to these two families, which is the happiest. We might think that MR A, who is comfortably settled in his life, to arguments can be more defined to pretend to be happy.
MR B when to him, to a family life more present, but perhaps he is also in lack of personal recognition, of accomplishment?

If we had to analyze these two cases, it would be difficult to decide between them, because each person has a different vision of happiness. But let's try to decrypt them.

MR A is rich, but has no leisure in life, and thinks he has a fulfilled family life because he supports their needs. The material side does not replace human sharing, but feels it is missing?
MR A will be continually looking for success and recognition, that's the essence of his life. What is dangerous with this way of being happy is that we will never be satisfied in the long run. After each victory, MR A will have to start a new fight.
Many people work like this, to exist they need recognition. This mode of operation leads to overwork or malaise in many cases. There will never be an end, so never a real rest.
To live better, MR A should be able to differentiate his work from his family, which is not easy when you are the pillar of a company, or simply passionate about your work.

MR B is certainly financially limited, which can lead to conflict in his relationship. But its family structure is strong and allows a better positive approach in the difficulties.
MR B shares human relationships with those close, he is not in the material and does not run after a chimera.
His way of life will not necessarily inspire outsiders, because the basis of our society is geared to material and consumption.
But this way of focusing on these values ultimately gives him perhaps more victory and well-being on a daily basis. He does not need more and so is satisfied with what he has.

What is important to remember from these two families is that each individual is free from these choices, but must be able to keep a guideline in the way he evolves, so as not to lose himself.

Conclusion of Part 1

The needs of a person are simple, the consumer society distorts this data.
We see around us the success and wealth of some, the power of others.
The material is always more present which leads us to envy and frustration. So without realizing it, we all go into this schema of society that pushes people to want more and more.

In Part 2, always in this quest for happiness, we will determine what envy is, or its limits and how to fight it in order to better live our life every day.
