The other day, @eventspeaker challenged a bunch of us who all had met at the @steemcreators conference to make a meme and drop it in the comments of his post.

I am not a big meme person. There are times when I see one that I like, but for the most part - let's just say, I am not a fan.
But, if asked and if it is possible, of course, I will try my best.

My good friend duck duck came up with this quote (among a bunch of others).

We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.

Joseph Campbell

After I dropped it, I kept thinking about it.

And it kept speaking to me. I don't know about you, but life hardly ever turns out as planned - at least not for me.

One thing I found is the more I try to control what is happening, the more it is going other than planned.

At this point in my life, I am pretty good with going with the flow and am able and willing to change plans - all the time.

And I recognize how often I encounter people who are so set that it has to go a certain way and use up so much energy being upset if the day, the week, the month, the life, turns out differently than planned.

How does this apply in your life? Does it resonate at all? How do you handle the unexpected?

I, too, have learned to go with the flow. Life became much more fluid as I let the grip go and allowed the days to become more fluid. It's like broncho riding that way and your body and heart learn to move with it and keep your seat (balance) much more readily. Nice message.

Like bronco riding - that is what life is like!!!! Perfect!!

That image came to me in response to your lovely piece. Taking a break today from the Kohl Center to do a dentist appointment in a nice little date Jeff!

I definitely learned long ago to be fluid. I learned the hard way, ironically from martial arts. I had studied hard styles for years, and finally began looking into aikijitsu. Its whole premise is to flow with the energy instead of trying to force the energy. I began to notice that was my approach to life, not just in practice.

It's like that monkey with the jar story I heard years ago. You put food in the jar and the monkey will reach in and be unable to get his hand out because he refuses to let go of the food. His fist bunched up is to large for the opening.

Years ago I was walking with my son, and needed to stop to tie my shoe. I was barely bent over when the sound of tires screeching startled me and looking up, saw a car sliding sideways up over the curb onto the sidewalk where we would have been had I not needed to tie my shoe. It left an impression and the longer I thought about it over the next few days I came up with this:

If I had not stopped, we would have been hit. I did stop, so we were not hit. I had no say in any of that. The only control I had once I stopped was over how well I tied my shoe. That's all we can do, is the best of whatever we are doing in this moment. At least that's what I came up with. Any other outlook would have driven my natural tendency towards being an A type personality crazy.

Thank you for encouraging a dialogue on these topics when you post.

Thank you!!

The car incidence must have been quite scary. So many lessons are learned every day that we just are not in total control. we can prepare - and then deal with whatever comes our way. That is where we have a choice - how we act and react.

My kids took Aikido and I did for a short while as well. The whole art is built on moving with the energy instead of against it.

I see so much resistance all around me and life is so much harder when we try to force our will upon it.
