Spiders, Candy, and Closing Down Main Street

in #life5 years ago

There is something about small town parties. Greetings are cordial and memories are plentiful as old friends find a reason to get together once more.

While I am not a fan of Halloween and don’t celebrate it in the way most people do (I prefer calling it Reformation Day), it is enjoyable to make some kids smile as they catapult spiders.

@thefoundry made a point to be involved in Treats on Main this year and two of our members found a brilliant idea to share with the kids. The game involves catapulting a spider into the middle of the web. If you succeed, you receive two pieces of candy, if not, you receive one piece for participating.

Since I have a slow mo video option on my phone, I thought this moment would be fun. The dad’s reaction at the end is priceless.

There was no shortage of surprising costumes sported by curious kids at our table. Some did not seem too excited to be there, and others, well, they were all boy - the little guy above made me smile.

Oh, btw, the first person to score two pieces of candy, yeah, it was Spider-Man. The irony of that was not lost on any of us.

So much fun out there everyone enjoying it :D

Deb and I used to take the kids to an All Saints party at our prayer group - much more wholesome than the darker aspects of the night. Now it seems that few kids are out going door to door - we had one last night. It may be a symptom of the times we live in.

much more wholesome than the darker aspects of the night.

That does sound more wholesome.

As kids we always visited aunt, uncles, and relatives that were relatively home bound. It made for a more relaxed and enjoyable evening.

Ha ha the excitement on that fathers face seeing the spider jump so far. As you say priceless.
Yesterday night was great for the village as just about everyone with kids went around and met new friends by exchanging a few sweets. A social success in my book.

When I was a kid Halloween meant a trip to church and that was it. My how things have changed?

They sure have, my friend. Glad we still find ways to enjoy an evening like this as communities.

Very cool, Lydon!

Our church puts on an event called "Trunk 'N' Treat" at the church park every year. The community comes out in force for a safe option where their kids can have fun (bouncy houses, popcorn, cotton candy, etc.) and get candy from reliable sources.

😄😇😄

@creatr

Ahh, yes, we call it Trunk or Treat here in the south. It is the safe option, but it is also nice to see communities doing festivals like this together.

Also the most important and fun is to share those moments of happiness with the little ones. The idea of the spider catapult was great for them.

I am jealous of the nice weather you had LOL
