On Tthe first picture is a Polish surgeon, Zbigniew Religa.
In the eighties, the probability of success in such an operation in Poland was just 50 percent. There was a lack of properly trained staff - remembered prof. Zbigniew Religa.
It was August 4, 1987. The operation lasted over twenty hours. Managed to. Patient after transplant survived for over 30 years!

Tadeusz Żytkiewicz (patient) died on 19 September 2017. He was the longest surviving patient after heart transplantation in Poland. It was operated by Professor Zbigniew Religa himself. The transplant was carried out in 1987. He survived for 30 years with a new heart! #SCIENCE
