Why it's time to prioritise your addiction

in #life6 years ago

For many years I put off prioritising my addiction. Initially, it seemed like I was fine. And, for most people, it does probably start out this way. You start out drinking a drink or two and it not being that big of a deal. Lots of people I grew up with started drinking around 12 years old stealing a nip or two out of their parents' liquor cabinet. Over time though this habit grows into a habitual feeling and want.

Addiction is a dis-ease

I separated those two words because, even though there is enough evidence to show that addiction is a true disease, it is also the concept of dis-ease in the mind as well. I want you to clearly understand that while addiction does start in the brain it is also nurtured by environment, set, setting and your ability to fight back. There are lots of factors that contribute to addiction but the most important ones factor around the initial use.

There are many psychological variables which affect a person’s decision to experiment with illegal drugs. These kinds of variables run the gamut from learning difficulties, behavioral diagnosis such as bipolar to anxiety disorders. Sometimes these psychological variables may come from external situations such as abuse both physical and mental and may not be part of a larger overall mental concern. Psychological variables can certainly lead to experimentation and eventually drug abuse so care should be taken to ensure that warning signs are not ignored (Brannon & Feist, 2010)

Why the time is now

Choosing to prioritise your addiction now makes a lot of sense even though this time of year is excruciatingly hard. I say that because if you put in the work now to really put a proper plan in place you can be on the road to recovery and feeling great for the new year. Starting off the new year with a sharp mindset, healthy and addiction free can be incredibly liberating.

Each year around new years I rededicate my life to living sober and healthy. I hope you will join us, ask questions or comment if you need help getting clean. We have helped over 900 people get sober from home including fighting alcohol, opioids, porn, smoking and more. We'd love to help you have the best year of your life.

Sincerely,

For me addiction is not normal. But, some would say, normal is boring. What about addicted to read, addicted to love, addicted to help poor people? I guess we're talking here of bad addiction. But in general anything that's too much is not a good thing. Even too much goodness would lead to a higher degree of presumption which will end up into being PRIDE, not a healthy behavior in my point of view. Humility is still the foundation of all virtues in my opinion.
