“It’s not the destination that matters, it’s the journey!” - Words Of Wisdom SHOW Episode 05

Good morning everyone! This is your Cypriot guy, Kyriakos Kyriakides, Founder of the Team LEGACY, your mentor and your coach!

This is another episode of “Words of Wisdom SHOW”! Today we have Wednesday, and we are already in the middle of the week! Hope your week is amazing and productive as mine! Today I am going to talk to you about something more sophisticated. Today’s topic is for those who have a goal and they are working hard to achieve it! For those who have a great desire to achieve something in their lives and they are working towards it! Today we are going to talk about the Journey and the Destination. More specifically we are going to discuss together an amazing quote that made a click to me when I’ve heard it for the first time! The quote is: “It’s not the destination that matters, it’s the journey!”

Today we are going to discuss the importance to enjoy the journey towards a destination, and not just working hard, not having fun, and not feel nice in the journey. Many people, including me even now, get so focused on their goal, they focus so much to their future that they forget to enjoy the now, the present, the journey! When we have a goal, we need to understand that what matters, it’s not achieving that goal, but the experiences, and the person you will become in the process In order to achieve that goal.

To make it more clear, let’s say that you want to start a business. In order to start a business it will require approximately 18-36 months, only to make your mindset right! All of us, because of the teaching system we are programmed to become employees! From elementary school, to University, they always teach us how we will find a job, they teach us everything on how to be a perfect employee, etc.! If a person wants to become an entrepreneur, then he or she needs to make a great effort in order to fix the damage that School has made to his/her mind. Don’t get me wrong, school, and Universities are good, for someone that wants to become an employee. not everyone will become entrepreneur. We need people that will become employees and they like it. But for people that want to become entrepreneurs, there is not help in order to teach them how to become. So the first step in order to become successful entrepreneur is to develop the Necessary Mindset. After you need to develop the Skills that are required and after that the Experiences that are needed. All of those will create a different person. Will create a better version of you! Will create the entrepreneurial version of you. But the whole process is what matters because it’s the process that will create that person. he most important thing it's not that you will have a successful business, but the person that you will become in the process, the better YOU!

Here I want to mention also a movie that I’ve watched few months ago. This movie is called “The peaceful warrior” and for those that didn’t watch it it’s AMAZING! Now, also I am going to spoil you a scene which is very meaningful for our topic today! So, if you didn’t watch the movie, shut your ears for now, until I talk about the scene and you can re watch this episode after you watch the movie! So, in the movie, the main actor, Dan Millman, with his coach, Socrates, were climbing together a huge mountain, because Socrates wanted to show to Dan something great in the top of the mountain. Once they’ve reached the top of the mountain, Dan asked Socrates what was the so amazing thing that he wanted to show him. Eventually Socrates told him that he didn’t want to show him something specific! Dan in the beginning got so mad because they were climbing so many hours for nothing! But was it really the climbing for nothing? What is the message behind that scene (This is also explained in the movie)?

Socrates wanted to show to Dan this exactly lesson. That it is not the destination that matters, it’s the journey! In the whole journey to the top of the mountain Dan was so happy and was having so much fun! So, Socrates wanted to show him that, it doesn’t matter so much what he would see at the top, because he was having so much fun and was happy, while he was climbing to the top.

Socrates taught our today’s topic with this amazing example of the mountain. Whatever is your goal, whatever you want to achieve, always remember to enjoy the journey, because that’s what matters in the end. Journey is the process that will train you, tha will make you a better person in order to reach that destination! But the journey is the one that will give you all the really valuable lessons and experiences. Have your goals written down, know the steps that you have to take, but after that just live in the present! Every day, wake up, be grateful that you breath, and take another one step to come closer to your dream! But always remember to live each step in the fullest! Always remember to take each step as best as you can! Remember to live and enjoy each step, even if it’s painful, brings a lot of sweat and a lot of grind! In the end you will see that you will reach the destination, but it won’t matter to you anymore, because the journey gave you all the gifts and lessons you were searching and you were asking for!

I want to close this episode today with another amazing quote from my greatest and most favorite actor Will Smith:
“You don’t say I am gonna build the biggest and baddest wall that’s ever been built. You say, I’m gonna lay this brick, as perfectly as a brick can be laid, and you do that every single day, and soon you will have a perfect wall!”

Always remember to live every single day, enjoy the journey, be grateful, and do each step towards to your dreams as best as you can! In the end you will reach your destination, but it won’t matter so much to you, because you will already have achieved everything that you wanted, you would live everything that you were searching, and you would learn everything that you wanted to learn!
