While some businesses will not allow you to do this because the manager is busy at the time, others will appreciate the fact that you wanted to hand your application in in person. You should shake the person’s hand, introduce yourself, and explain why you are looking for the job. The person will likely say that he or she will contact you later, and that leaves you a window to call for a follow up in the future.
