Airports
Apart from that airports for a lot of people a daily bundle of stress, they are also a river of tears more than we would want in negative AND in positive way

I only started looking at this from a different perspective when I moved to the other side of the sea. Yes, ofcourse as a kid I had also already lived abroad, but as a 5 year-old a goodbyes was just as terrible as not seeing someone overnight when she had stolen your marbles, as nog seeing someone for a next two years.
In Holland you have a TV show about these airport meetings. 'Hello Goodbye' it's called. Here a camera crew walks up to people to ask them for who they are waiting, or who they are dropping off. Incredibly emotional stories come up on this program, and I am almost happy that I don't watch television, because I would be crying my eyeballs out everytime.
If you understand Dutch...this one is about an elderly couple picking up their adult daughter. Grandpa has Alzheimers so they are not sure if he is going to recognize his own daughter.
There is so much more behind that hug you see at the airport.
There is this feeling of unknown, of when the next meetup will be. There is saying goodbye to years of living together. There are families split again in two living thousands of miles apart. Do not underestimate these hugs at airports and give people their space....for real..these are the moments they think back about for years again as fading memories.
Every airport has their own iconic places of goodbyes. In Sint Martin in the old airport before it was destroyed by hurricane Irma (almost 1.5 year later the airport is still in a tent now), the goodbye place was a escalator going up from the departure hall. Damn I stood there a lot looking at these escalators watching friends leaving who I had spend golden days and nights with, and having seeing them since.
And what about the times that I was on that escalator as well looking at the people that I was leaving behind. The last goodbye was naturally the most dramatic one. In front of the 'temporary tent' a sidewalk hug in the burning sun because there was no roof there. I remember every second of it still. (including the stress after while still crying, my ESTA was filled out wrong, my second suitcase wasnt booked, creditcard not working and all other things that could possibly go wrong)
An airport goodbye hug is never 'just a hug'
We have that Hello/Goodbye show here on the telly. Hello is always exciting..goodbye not so much.
Goodbye isnt that good indeed...most cool stories are on helloing again
I always found airport goodbyes super impressive as I did them a lot, but that is a very non describable feeling
