The last known Tasmanian Tiger in existence died in 1936 at a Hobart zoo...they weren't declared extinct however, until 1982...that doesn't prevent people from claiming that they still exist...in fact, some people believe they continue to exist to this day, and a few even claim to have video footage to back up their claims...

These odd looking creatures...which look like a cross between a hyena and a tiger...supposedly vanished from the Australian mainland over 2,000 years ago...although reported sightings from several Australian states are received from time to time...the majority of recently reported sightings come from people living and working in New South Wales...mainly in the northern regions...

Aside from the wide gaping jaws...perhaps the oddest thing about the Tasmanian Tiger is that it is a member of the marsupial family...which means it probably had a little kangaroo in the wood pile somewhere along the evolutionary trail...there has been a lot of talk surrounding these animals in the news recently...some claiming they are not extinct...others debating whether or not scientists should be allowed to bring them back from extinction...but one thing remains clear...it is a very intriguing beast to be sure...
