What Do You Think is the Root of All Evils?

Ignorance + Religion = Terrorism

Ignorance + Power = Tyranny

Ignorance + Freedom = Chaos

Ignorance + Money = Corruption

Ignorance + Poverty = Crime

Ignorance is the Root of All Evils.

How not to be ignorant about the world | Hans and Ola Rosling

Causes of Ignorance.

  1. Personal Bias
  2. Outdated Facts
  3. News Bias

Mix these with human intuition and we have a recipe for ignorance. I love the video by Hans and Ola they are doing a good work. I would rather we train ourselves. The amazing thing is that we have the internet. We no longer have an excuse to be ignorant.

Sort:

Well said. But it is usually easier to ignore than to fight, so most people choose this path and then have the appropriate consequences.

Good point! I say that love of self is the root of all evil.

Knowledge is the key! Thanks for the post.:)

No excuses! We have the world literally at our fingertips, if we embrace these technologies we have instead of squandering them, humankind will rise to unparalleled levels of awesome.

Wonderful words and this could become a reality, we just need to make sure we get our philosophy right.

Thanks @the-ego-is-you. We create our realities through our thoughts and actions, WE have the power :)

We certainly don't create reality, but that's why we need to alter it, as I'm sure is what you mean. Yes, we do indeed have the power! =)

We can create, we can alter, we can change, basically, we can do it all is what i mean. We have the power :)

Well yes, but not "create" in the sense of "starting" the world so to speak. We can't alter what's outside of our bodies, simply by thinking about it.

The power we have, is to think and act on our thoughts. Which is a great power!

With that power, may your dominant thoughts become your dominant actions :)

"The amazing thing is that we have the internet. We no longer have an excuse to be ignorant."

True, but there is the issue of overwhelm. Getting up to speed on a complex issue (Syria, for example) can take a huge amount of time and energy. Understandably, this is off-putting for many people who would in fact like to be better informed.

As you can see in the video, ignorance is not the greatest problem. And it is not the source of evil. (The chimps were entirely ignorant of the topic, yet were more accurate than the human participants)

To qoute my favorite philosopher (not novelist, but nonfiction writer) Ayn Rand:

Thinking is man’s only basic virtue, from which all the others proceed. And his basic vice, the source of all his evils, is that nameless act which all of you practice, but struggle never to admit: the act of blanking out, the willful suspension of one’s consciousness, the refusal to think—not blindness, but the refusal to see; not ignorance, but the refusal to know.

It is the act of unfocusing your mind and inducing an inner fog to escape the responsibility of judgment—on the unstated premise that a thing will not exist if only you refuse to identify it, that A will not be A so long as you do not pronounce the verdict “It is.”

I got all the answers right by the way. But after all, so did probably all Steemians, right? ;)

The proverbial "head in the sand"!

Maybe it's not the root of all evil, but for sure it's one of most important ingredients.

This is so true! And honestly, not so many people would think about what is actually the core of the problem. Not government, nor bank system nor greed. I love this powerful photo above - it shows that ignorance collided with other features forms these real issues that are actual all over the world.
