Humans Are Fruit Eaters By Nature

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Jan Dries is a nutritionist and lecturer in Natural Medicine, in his book "The Dries Cancer Diet" he claims that human beings are frugivores.

"Humans are frugivores by nature. A comparison between the human digestive system and those of other frugivores makes this clear... Our entire metabolism is tuned in to fruit."

He also writes in his book that

"Modern anatomy and physiology irrefutably prove that humankind has the digestive system of a frugivore"

William H. Dieffenbach, a medical doctor has said that

"Fruit, instead of being a dessert, should, if properly evaluated, be classified as the most valuable of food."

Ross Horne, and Australian health writer says in his work"The New Health Revolution"

"It is a fact that in reasonable variation, fruit can provide the full compliment of all required nutrients in adequate quantities... fruit should be considered in its own right as a staple food"

What do you think? Are we frugivores? Herbivores? Carnivores? Omnivores?

Sort:

Exactly how long have you been a frutarian? And do you only have good things to say about that experience or do you sometimes have some health issues related to it? Assuming you're 100% frutarian

I've been eating at least 80% fruit for maybe 1,5 years. Some periods many months fruits only and in other periods I've been having some very simple cooked vegan food at the evening.

I have mostly good experiences while doing 100% fruit, I've never experienced health related issues with it, but I think that when people do it's not because of the diet itself - but other factors, we don't live in an optimal environment and the fruit quality, quantity is not close to as good it could be and there are several other factors to also consider if you want to eat only fruit. I'll make a post about it in the future.

I always feel the best mentally, physically and emotionally while eating a high fruit diet and maybe a few salads a week. I have only good things to say about the diet, but not about the quality of fruit, our toxic environment and foods..

But isn't fruit a bit deficient in terms of proteins and carbs? Certainly you need those nutrients to restore and build your muscles and give you energy. I know that the other nutrients like fats can be acquired through avocado and coconut oil and micro-nutrients like fibers and pretty much all sorts of vitamins as well. But you're also including dried fruits, like nuts and almonds, correct?

All fruits contain around 1-3 percent protein and lots of carbs.
There are people eating only fruit for many years and have never suffered any sign of protein deficiency. Have you ever heard about anyone dying out of a lack of protein? The amount of protein we actually need is heavily distorted propaganda from the dairy and meat industries the last centuries.

Still, by eating nuts, leafy greens and maybe seeds you can easily improve the amount of protein, some people choose to include these foods while eating mostly fruits.

A higher fat intake can be obtained also by including these foods, and as you mention avocado in addition to durian, eggfruit and coconut meat can also be eaten if a higher fat-intake is desired.

Nevertheless, I feel best while eating a low-fat fruit-based diet and there are several athlete-performers that have done the same, I have a previous post about that.

Don't know what durian or eggfruit is but coconut is amazing. I'd never give up my nuts (no pun intended) nor spinach and other vegetables. But I do prefer the ones that can be eaten raw like carrots and onions and so on.
I'm gonna try to eat more fruit but if I have an overdose it's on you :P

hahaha, I recommend trying fruit only meals for breakfast or lunch, smoothie or fruit salad etc... Then you can try sense the difference when you eat fruit and other foods. Be aware how you feel during eating and after, your energy, your focus etc... This is what I think is most powerful if people want to discover the power of fruit.

This, I started transitioning to eating only fruit for breakfast and lunch first, then when dinner came around I would eat a cooked vegan meal and would never feel as good as earlier in the day.

Nothing better than eating high quality sweet fruit.

Also Michael Greger says we are mostly frugivores and he is a very smart guy 😅

I eat mostly fruit, perhaps 90% of my daily food intake. I don't know what I would do without it since I have celiac disease and can't digest complex carbs or sugars.
It healing and I feel great eating this way, but I often wonder why vegan doctors recommend limiting sugars from fruits.

Chimpanzee brain can only use carbs for energy but human brain can use both fat and crabs. Chimps therefore can not travel far from the equator. How did human evolve our brain to utilize fat and grow our brain size? The trick is the use of fire. We don’t need a strong jaw anymore. That lead to brain size increase. Some fire usage and cooking is still necessary. Human had been using fire to cook our food for about 500 thousand years. We want to eat a lot of fruits and nuts. At the same time, we should use fire to cook certain healthy plant-based whole food to help with our digestion, and complete nutritional requirements.
