Visiting ASeal, a seal shelter.
The other day we went to visit a seal shelter. They take care of baby seals that have been abandoned by their mothers for various reasons (the mother might’ve been spooked, or killed while hunting for food or somesuch reasons).
The name of the shelter is a play on the dutch word asiel, which means shelter.
My little boy wanted to go there last year but we didn’t have time back then. So now that we’re staying in the neighbourhood, enjoying our vacation, we thought it a great idea to go and visit.
It’s basically one big expo room with all the seals they’re taking care of lined in small habitats around the outer edges. They’re seperated from the expo area by glass, giving the visitors a great look.
Admitedly, it’s kinda expensive for what it is, but my boy loved all the baby seals and thought them cute. Moreover, the admition fee adds to the funding of the Shelter, which you know, equals a good cause. So all in all, fair deal.
I got to learn there’s hundreds of seals around the Dutch waters. Just slightly beyond our field of view from the coast. I had no idea. It’s a good thing there are seal shelters like thos one.

Ik eerlijk gezegd ook niet, totdat we deze tegenkwamen vorig jaar. Ik vind het wel een nobel doel, die zeehondjes opvangen.
