The hypo and hyper within me
Having a kidney malfunction just destroys the body's balance from regulating a body processes to a changing the physical form of the body due to those disturbance in balances. Among those imbalances that I suffered/suffering from that I am carrying with me as a burden are:
Hypertension
It is an elevation in blood pressure and in my case the no. 1 cause is an extra volume in the blood due to accumulation of fluids before the dialysis treatments. Sometimes it doesn't get corrected and persists until the patient gets complications.
Hypotension
It is the opposite of hypertension and occasionally during dialysis, my BP drops to the point that I would risk of having a shock. A major cause is the hypotensive effect of taking out excessive amounts of water from the body due to many factors like miscalculations of how much water can be drawn out and if the patient was taking some antihypertensive drugs that adds to the further lowering of the blood pressure into dangerous levels.
Hypocalcemia
It is a low calcium level in the blood. It already taken it's effect to my body, to the bones in particular which caused me a disfigurement and difficulty in breathing and walking. It is caused by my body's retention of phosphorus.
Hyperphosphataemia
High phosphates (phosphorus) in the blood makes the parathyroid excited so it tells the bones to release calcium so that itt could balance the calcium-phosphorus in the blood. The result is a weakened bone.
Hyperparathyroidism
It gets hyper when much phosphorus lingers in the body which happened to me, hence the complications that I got from it. The doctor should have suggested for it to get removed, at least it should have made a difference to my health significantly but too late. I can still feel that hard lump beside my thyroid gland which was once noticeable a few years ago. I believe it is still hyper.
Hypernatraemia
It is a high sodium content in the blood which a contributing factor are that the patient is eating salty foods or them not being dialyzed adequately which makes the sodium build up and make a complication of elevated blood pressure and excess thirst which leads to being waterlogged or edema of the body in general.
There are actually many more that can go awry or overboard within a dialysis patient's body which is triggered by an excess of minerals or lack of certain body component like hormones that makes the body create more blood and the lack of proper amounts of blood itself so the complications just creates another.
Those are just some of the imbalances that I did suffered and suffering from and risk of getting a complication from. It is a hard situation and needs a proper careful managing to do which to some extent I did get to control that lead me to add years to my life. Thanks be to God, and to some fellow steemians out there.
