RE: MUSIC YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO RIGHT NOW!! - #1

in #life7 years ago

Hi, Ryan,

Thanks for this series... I've always been in need of "musical guidance" because I don't generally go looking for new music on my own.

BTW, I'm here courtesy of your dad having re-steemed your recent article on Music.

For most of my life, the music that I come to love has been "hand-me-downs," usually from friends, quite often from my younger sister. Nowadays, occasionally from something I heard in passing on a TV show and identified courtesy of the "Soundhound" app...

And so, your suggestions here are valuable to me. Interestingly enough, I am already pretty much a lifelong fan of Carole King and Jim Croce.

I remember some Stevie Wonder stuff from growing up and the occasional TV special, but it's good to be reminded and maybe I'll look further now. Same with Thelonious Monk.

Corrine Bailey Ray is completely new to me, and I found her piece absolutely spectacular. I really appreciate you having shared these! :D

Hopefully people will enjoy the series ;) The Carole King BBC 1970 concert is spectacular - I only put the one song but really that entire performance was amazing. Its essentially "Tapestry" unplugged! You'd be surprised how many people don't know who Jim Croche is... "Time in a bottle" would have been the popular choice but that songs on the back burner for a little while (they used it in a commercial recently)..

Thanks for mentioning the source of the particular Carole King performance. I will have to check out the rest of the concert. Tapestry was in fact the very first Carole King album that my sister shared with me, and I still listen to it quite often. "Smackwater Jack" is amazing!

I also have a Solid Gold Jim Croce album...

And now you have me looking forward to hearing more of the lovely Corrine Bailey Ray. ;)

Great choices! Thanks!

BTW, I have now also discovered that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree... I read your "Southern Girl" story and found it delightful! :D

I hope you'll become more prolific at the computer/fiction keyboard like your dad... ;)
