One of my daughters (I have lot of them; totally unrelated but self-adopted) lost her mum on Tuesday and I couldn’t help but feel sad and pity for her. If you have ever lost someone then you will know the pain of losing someone so dear and close. She cried only for 5 minutes but she has been hiding the pain in her heart so much. I am scared she might collapse and hit a rock bottom due to her avoidance of letting the pain show. She isn’t smiling anymore; not that I expected her to, but she is getting numb to pin and that is a dangerous path to follow.

It is sad when those who have never dealt with pain advise you on how best to manage losing someone. In my language, when you want to offer counsel to another, the first thing they will ask you is, ”Has it happened to you before?” Because only when you have gone through similar fate can you truly understand what the person is going through, at least to some extent.

I laugh and chuckle inside when someone is going through something and you hear people try to comfort such person by saying, ”I understand what you are going through”. No, you don’t and you can’t, except you have gone through the same thing too.

This adopted daughter of mine is about to write her A-Levels examination in few days to come and the CEO of the academy told her friend to stop pampering her and tell her to read; someone that just lost her mother? That is a terrible way to console people. In as much as he meant that in good fate so she can move on and focus on her life, I still feel he went about it the wrong way. There is no easy way to tell people goodbye and there is no easy way to move on from pain or from losing someone so dear.

A lot of people try to act tough thereby forgetting the sensitivity of the situation another person is going through. When we want to be kind, we should really be kind and not leave our human side to the curb. There is no easy moving on, especially for a young lady of 20 years that just lost her mother.

…to be continued…

Thank you for your time.
