Proficiency and Competence Against the Blunt Instrument
Hi Steemians!!! How are you all?
Working with intensity is different from working with elegance. While the latter gets you results, the first one only exhausts you to the point of contemplating surrender.
You can attain a will that a lot of people can only dream about; you can decide to put many hours into your work every day and work with a fiery passion unrivalled in the whole world; you can fight with perseverance and consistency… and you can fail nonetheless.
Sometimes, in order to achieve victory, you need utilize intelligence before developing a hard-working mentality. That admirable struggle can only get you so far, and you will feel the need for a sense of cunning to take advantage of the tools and the environment around you to improve your efficiency.
A blunt instrument is fully capable of accomplishing the deed, and it will eventually take you where you need to go, but in the inadequacy of an absent competence, you will lose the most valuable resource of all: “Time.”
One day, a man walked past a lumberjack cutting a tree in the morning. In the afternoon, when the man was coming back home from work and decided to take the route through the forest again. He saw the lumberjack again, and hours had passed, but he was still striking the same tree with his axe. The axe must be blunted, the man thought.
“Why wouldn’t you sharpen the axe first and then cut the tree?” The man asked.
“Sharpen the axe? If only I had time to sharpen the axe!” The lumberjack replied.
This is the same folly that awaits us at the start of every journey. The senselessness of the tools that we sometimes utilize will only waste our time and gain us nothing but the regret of not spending our time on thinking more about what we yearn to do and gathering more intelligence on it.
Abraham Lincoln once said,
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
Dreamers who realize their dreams spend a lot of time studying the world and how each and every aspect of it can help them develop this dream into a reality of its own. If you merely dream, or even take steps towards realizing, without an extensive knowledge and vision about the world and its capacities, you will be a lumberjack struggling to cut down a tree with a blunted axe. Sharpen your axe, and let go of the convenience of the blunt instrument. ================================== I have been working very hard on this blog since the beginning. I agree with your material today. Intelligence is not enough work is not enough but utilizing all your resources and figuring out your problems whether it be chopping a tree down, going to college and getting a scholarship or writing a book each one of these endeavors require thought and strategy. You don't even have to be a brainiac to understand that you need to take time listing priorities [choose a good tree, sharpen the ax, get up earlier ect.]. I remember when I started blogging trying to figure out what to write about and it eluded me often. But now the most simple of all skills is what I realized needs to be executed the most... Simply writing.
How many years ago I wanted to write a book... I still want to write a book. Back then I purchased and loaned out hundreds of writing books on learning how to do that. Reading books on writing is akin to reading books on riding a bike. I can read all about balance I could read all about what clothes to wear what kind of bike to ride where I can ride the makes it and easiest ride etc etc... but I will never, ever learn how to ride a bike unless I get up on it and learn how to balance, move the pedals and steer.

Well said @chbartist if we do any work without proper study and vision then it will take longer time and result will also not be good enough. As you mentioned what Lincoln said.. is the perfect method to start with. We must do all the homework about the task or project we are going to start. Not even knowledge instead we must prepare a roadmap and checklist for the work and start progress accordingly. That checklist and road-map will help a lot to finish the task in a proper ans smarter way. Have a great day friend @chbartist

Careful planning and thorough preparation are one of the keys to success. A systematic methodology is a must. This is our ax to cut our way to success. Our familiarity with our tools makes us effective and efficient.

@chbartist, First time i want to say that success is Illusion because we are more than materialistic aspects and by that i mean in my opinion everyone is here with the predestined roles and contributing towards one goal which is yet to explore may be it will good or bad. And i think most of the people are kept in the Lower Vibrational World where they are suppressed in daily life and it's not just like that, may there is an whole system there to control the Human Mind. So, whatever we till now learned from the past from this world may be an Lie. If you see this world, it's running behind those aspects which they never own and hold, and they call it success, but success is ascension from the limitation and to see the real beauty in every aspect and expanding the aspect of understanding. And life is greatest teacher and if you observe then life have an pattern and that is, what we hold as truth, it comes and it will change it every time and that is because in my opinion, in phases life will push us towards the Predestined Truth.

Intelligence and cunning come through a lot of experience and it is God gifted too, society will teach us how to be it, we are the students and society is the teacher,among us the result of the exam will not be same, one may choose blunt axe, other may choose sharpened axe, reading your article we should all try to choose sharpened axe to be the successful one in life.

This is a great analogy to think about as the tools available to us these days are abundant and increase our productivity immensely. The amount of information we have access to through the communities we form are a great tool to gain perspectives and knowledge before attending issues that may arise.
