Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was a German composer, conductor and pianist. The Ninth Symphony, also known as the Choral Symphony, because it included a choir in its fourth movement, was the work that consecrated him throughout the world. When he was 27 years old, Beethoven began to develop the first symptoms of deafness and at 48 he was already completely deaf.
