UNIVERSITY LEVIES HAS BECOME CONTEMPTIBLE TO ALL THE STUDENTS!

in #life6 years ago (edited)

University tuition has now become the theme in every students’ mind because the cost of university education has literally resulted to being extremely expensive that numerous students cannot afford. I have had a scenario in my own class where some students dropout from campus due to the luck of tuition to cater for their education needs and other hindering problems from their backgrounds yet almost every student in Uganda who wants to go to the university should go for their final standard of education at an affordable price even with the saying that “education is expensive”.

Well, students are paying a lot of tuition to the university and getting less of the value they pay. You would think they get a terrific education and be able to get jobs immediately after completion of their studies but all this will just be done in vain because the universities are only up-to getting more students to come to their schools and not giving the students excellent education that was paid for wholesomely.

The government of Uganda has tried to fix this on several occasions by constructing government universities but due to mass corruption and embezzlement of government funds in the country, nothing has been done successfully. Students in the government universities strike almost every semester of their studies against the university officials because of inadequate facilities to aid their education and luck of enough lecturers in the university; that is to say the money provided by the government to improve development in these universities is embezzled by the top officials for their selfish interests thus leaving the universities in a bad state yet the money is to be spent on giving students quality education to prepare them for the real world.

It is very ill-fated that even after the providential students complete their education, there is limited employment opportunities for the graduates leaving a big percentage of the people unemployed and that’s setting them up for a lot of failure in life. Unemployment also comes with a lot of risks for instance theft, murders and so on because everyone would literally be looking for means of survival in all kinds of manner which can probably bring insecurity in the community. According to monitor.co.ug, of the 700,000 people in Uganda who join the job market every year regardless of the qualification, only 90,000 get something to do, leaving the 610,000 jobless which translates to 87% of the people ready to work but can’t find a job.

Many of the students have opted for cheaper technical schools where they pay the little they have so as to learn hands-on work for instance repairing vehicles, carpentry, mending shoes and tailoring because they are guaranteed of self-employment immediately after their training.

Conclusively, the university is hypothetically the best time of the students’ life because they are at the verge of completing their studies but it is very sad when some students cannot afford it and when the lucky students aren’t able to get jobs after graduating. Something really needs to be done and I’m certain that the government can provide more education facilities, employ accomplished lecturers who are in position to transfer their knowledge to the younger generation and lower the tuition fees imposed on the students because there are very many students who work hard and they are shrewd but can’t afford to go to the university yet these are the same people who will make a difference in the world.
