Life in the Bible: You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. Deuteronomy 30:20

The Book of Deuteronomy can be considered the conclusion of the Pentateuch, and its authorship is attributed to the prophet and legislator Moses. The Book of Deuteronomy not only contains the Ten Commandments but also describes the moments prior to the entry of the Israelites into Canaan, recounting a series of speeches made by Moses. In short, Deuteronomy aims to describe the implications and requirements of the alliance made between God and the Israelites. And like every book of the Bible, the wisdom of God is present throughout the sacred text.
And wisdom as the most perfect science for man has as its practical purpose to teach that men have a fundamental choice, truth and lie, life and death, are presented as choices for man: "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses" Deuteronomy 30:19. The problem of evil and ignorance underlies all discourses and statements, and Deuteronomy, with its prescriptions, tries to guide men along the correct path of life, because sin is painful and God in his plan did not choose error for man, but rather, the similarity to the most perfect: "Be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy" Leviticus 19:2.
It is for all this that the Book of Deuteronomy presents the love of God as the fullness of the law in the hearts of men; choosing this perfect love, the love projected towards the whole creation of the Lord, is choosing life and happiness. It is true, that the spiritual love is a grace, a gift from above, but it is also true that grace must be helped with knowledge, that is why the Book of Deuteronomy speaks about love and the law with these wise words: "Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life." Deuteronomy 30:19-20.
Those men who desire death and strive for it, are condemned to ignorance of true knowledge, to that darkness that opposes God and his law, and Deuteronomy wisely warns that God rejects fools. The edifying love beyond any prescription, teaches the Book of Deuteronomy, represents the true salvation for man.
