The Irony And Delusion Of Hustling: What I Learnt From Joining A Bunch Of Business And Marketing Facebook Groups

in #life6 years ago

a community joining hands, but ask yourself this, "whose blood is being shed?"

A few months ago, I was helping to promote my friend's company's blog. He was working at a marketing agency.

The strategy was to join a bunch of Facebook group to gain Facebook traffic as I posted the blog article links inside them.

I didn't spam of course. I added value. I joined in discussions. I tried to assimilate all the groups and their topics.

I tried to be one of them.

Know what I learnt? It's all a huge ironic delusion.

The hustling. The grinding. The "no excuses." The inspirational quotes. The random shit they talk about.

Let me just dive right in.

Sorry, but you're not taking action by talking about taking action

Screaming "Take action today!" seems to be the warcry for people who want success. I see so many people in these groups saying it.

But the irony is that they just love to talk about it.

Shit, if you want to take action, just do something and stop telling everyone about it.

Sorry, but meditation doesn't magically conjure the things you want in life

Every fucking successful entrepreneur seem to attribute their success to meditation.

It's a "game changer" apparently. You may add in reciting affirmations, yoga or other universe-tapping methods in this category.

Then the little guys are waylaid into thinking that meditation is all they need.

Yo, if you want something in life, just go carry out the direct action to get it. You want a MacDonald's meal? Go to MacDonald's and buy the damn meal. You don't stay at home to meditate for it.

Sorry, but your little rar-rar actions don't contribute to direct breakthroughs

Along the tune of meditation, we've the posting of inspirational quotes, asking others about their goals, talking about one's goals, asking others' opinions for mere validation, sharing what's your favorite book etc.

Will they make you feel a little good about yourself? Yes.

Will these little things give you success though? No.

That's all. See the difference? I am sure you do. But I am sure many would disagree with me anyway simply because they want to avoid feeling shitty about the work they do.

Again, if you want success, then do the direct work for a direct breakthrough and yeah, most of the time, you're not going to feel stellar during the process.

Sorry, but you're only being sold to

These groups are usually controlled by some entrepreneur who' in the business of teaching how to make money or create a business.

The entrepreneur then carries out said little rar-rar actions, which they will term as "adding value" just so you'd ultimately buy their crap.

Take note: Selling "how I sell" and making money through teaching others how to make money is a thinly-veiled multi-level marketing scheme that, through a paradox, will never work out for you. Only the top guy makes the money.

So unless you plan to indulge in the same paradox, it's highly unlikely anyone can teach you how to make a living out of your specific passion or idea. Of course, I highly recommend you don't go into the paradox because that'd mean you selling your soul.

Sorry, but you're only lying to yourself if you claim you're not in it for the money

So that successful person claimed that they were never in it for the money because their passion is to simply help others right?

Fuck that. That's their little tactic to lie to you that they're some benevolent god who's super nice to everybody.

There's a reason why you started on your venture and money plays a huge role in it. Don't ever deny this.

Sorry, but nobody really cares about your wins of the day

They're too small. Period.

Also, nobody likes a humblebragger.

Sorry, but 'free' is an absolute lie

Time and time again there'd always be someone posting shit like, "I have a free book/course/audio/email series on how to teach you [some shit that implies easy success or cash]! Comment if you want it!"

And then what ensues is a barrage of freebie-seekers commenting to get said free thing.

Yes, it's free, but it's only a little bait for you to be placed in their sales funnel.

Even if that's not case, the amount of free shit they give will never make a difference for you, otherwise a Google search alone is enough to gain success for everyone.

Sorry, but I am actually really not sorry

Because I've fucking been there.

I blogged for over six years. I've done all this feel-good shit in hopes of gaining a breakthrough. I'd avoid doing the hard work by telling myself something like, "Perhaps going for a walk tonight to re-align my soul with the universe through mindful breathing will help more instead! Besides, being happy with myself is more important right?"

Right, but come on man...

You're in the business because you want it to be a business.

You've to do the dirty work and feel less-than-great about it.

You're supposed to feel scared about the future because you don't have a job! Makes sense?

You will absolutely be happier with money being made because it makes life easier, like duh.

You can take action and not tell others about it (please?!)

You will have more motivation to do the work if you have a concrete plan from start to finish. Don't work blindly and certainly don't think little bits of good feelings mean progress e.g. meditating tonight doesn't mean a sale tomorrow. Dream on. If you want a sale, do what it takes to get a lead tonight, even if it's a fucking cold one.

You will progress a lot faster if you work directly for a direct breakthrough (even if it means not feeling great along the way.)

This is how fucking lucky you're to be here on Steemit

Because you just have to write and share to see some direct results.

It will not be a lot at first, but it is still there, which to me is way better than being fed mere validations in the form of good feelings through your little wins and shit; through talking to others (do you not see how it's a circle jerk?)

And at least, most people here don't preach so much pretentious bullshit out of their asses.

To end off, here's a little something I learnt when I was in one of my many rock bottoms:

I stopped believing in hustling.

I stopped believing in grinding.

I stopped believing in mentors, teachers or even successful people.

I stopped believing in meditating or doing other self-indulging feel-good shit just to feel good.

I just started to believe in myself.

Then I did whatever the fuck I knew I had to do.

Good luck.
