Let's put our egos aside and be our humble self

Ego, the three-letter word that might be the root cause of many of our problems. If someone corrects you and you feel offended, then you have an ego problem. Is that you or your ego talking? Your ego is your soul’s worst enemy.

I read an article in The Sun entitled "Let's put our egos aside" by Azman Ujang. In that article, the writer shared his story where he interviewed Malaysia's top three richest man, 'What made him such a successful businessman and yet such a humble person?' The billionaire asked the interviewer, "Do you have ego?", "If you do, please throw it out the window. Lots of people have ego that's bigger than their body," said the billionaire.

Because of ego, in a statistic, a shocking revelation was made that on average, one divorce is registered every 15 minutes among Muslim couples in Malaysia. This is so shocking that ego has a lot to do with failed marriages.

Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad also has his share of advice on ego, he said

A good leader will put aside ego and rectify mistakes if it will benefit those he leads. Ego tends to make people not see their mistakes or refuse to admit them, hence they would not be able to correct them. One value you can do without is ego. Some are of the opinion that ego can be positive as it drives you to be competitive. Ego is about self and not those you lead.

So ego is something that we can do without. The ego is the single biggest obstruction to the achievement of anything. More the knowledge, lesser the ego. Lesser the knowledge, more the ego. Ego is just like dust in the eyes. Without clearing the dust, we can’t see anything clearly, so clear the ego and see the world with more clear eyes.

Conquer and tame the ego will make a better world. Ego judges and punishes. Love forgives and heals. Let's spread more love and tame the ego. Let's put our egos aside and be our humble self
