Can we make an atmosphere there first?! I heard a few years ago that if we sent our rubbish to mars and burned it, that would create an atmosphere. Hopefully there are alternative plans!
I agree that would be the smarter idea. We could send plants instead of people, Maybe find a way to keep them alive somehow. Or like you said send certain kinds of rubbish. It seems easy. Much easier then sending a human. I'm starting to wonder if the goal isn't to live on mars, but instead to gain the title of "getting there first". Kind of deal. Which is a shame really.
