George Steeney, "14-year-old is the youngest accused to be executed by electric chair in America, and declared innocence after 70 years of his death

George George Steny was 14 years, 6 months and 5 days. He was executed by electric chair for the murder of my house John Benicar (11 years) and Mary Emma Tims (8 years). The story began on the afternoon of March 24, 1944, when Betty and Mary got on the bike and went out to pick up some roses. On their way, the two girls passed the home of the Steny family, a poor black family, and watched Catherine Steny and her brother George outside the house. Hours later, the small town turned into men with torches and searched for the two girls, but to no avail. But at about 7:30 am, some of the men showed footprints in a narrow road on the edge of the city. These traces guided the men to scissors lying on the grass, and then a distance not so big they had the bike. Finally they found the bodies of two fetuses with fractures and bruises. Hours later a group of white men came and took George Steny to the police station where he was held. One hour later, the angry police told her that George had confessed. According to the case, George admitted that he wanted to have sex with my house, and the only way to do that was to get rid of Mary by killing her. But because of Betty's resistance, he decided to kill her too.

The racial climate that dominated the case did not leave George's family. George Steny was separated from his job and the entire family was forced to leave the city. At 2:30 on April 21, 1944, the trial began.

Just before 5 pm, the jury (all white members) reached a decision that found George guilty and unworthy of mercy. The judge immediately decided to execute George through the electric chair. There were no witnesses to the denial, there was no appeal, George's family could not afford a lawyer. Some organizations and churches have asked Ulin Tolmag, the state governor, to intervene to stop the death sentence. Some sent letters to the governor of the state condemning the Hitler punishment: "Child execution is only for Hitler." Thus wrote one person in a letter to the governor. But others expressed their "racist" joy at George's death sentence: "Sure glad to hear your decision about the nigger Stinney," another person wrote in a letter to the state governor. Others did not think George was a victim, he was just an individual subjected to a racist campaign. He did not have the opportunity to defend himself, he was not granted the opportunity to have a lawyer, and he lost his right to appeal. Most of all, they brutally stripped him of his inherent right to life. With this ruling George Steny Jr. entered history as the youngest person to be sentenced to death in the 20th century. Seventy years after Steny was executed, his family petitioned the court to reinstate the trial, in the case that the smallest guilty person in the history of the United States had been executed since the 19th century. "Of course it can not be restored again, but he was innocent, so we wanted to prove that innocence," said Steny's relatives. Catherine Steny Robinson, 79, said that her brother was acquitted of the charge that had been executed because her brother was with her at the time of the crime. She pointed out that the police were looking for the killer of the two children. Scapegoat.
Family lawyer Matt Burgess said: "We are trying to correct a mistake that has been committed for 70 years," adding that it was the court that had the decision to open an investigation into the case again. The court, which ruled the innocence of the child, acknowledged the extent of the injustice suffered by Steny because of the racism of the American society at that time. The court found that the death sentence was issued less than 3 hours later and was carried out in less than three months. Family members or defense counsel.
