Mark Zuckerberg wurde im US-Kongress zu Libra und Facebook befragt und mit kritischen Statements und Fragen "gegrillt". Ist Libra jetzt tot?

Ich habe mir fast die gesamten 6 Stunden gegeben, da ich mir selber ein Bild machen wollte und ich die Debatte außerdem sehr amüsant finde. Eigentlich hat sich Mark Zuckerberg gar nicht so schlecht geschlagen und man bekommt auch ein bisschen Sympathie für ihn, wie er versucht, das Finanzsystem mit Libra zu disrupten und ahnungslosen Politikern Kryptowährungen zu erklären.

Anderseits sind auch nicht alle US-Abgeordneten so ahnungslos, wie man glaubt, sondern es sind auch wirklich gute Fragen gestellt worden und manche verfolgen durchaus einen pragmatischen Zugang und wollen Innovation nicht gleich im Keim ersticken.

Einer der Hauptkritikpunkte war allerdings, dass die Libra Association ihren Sitz in der Schweiz und nicht in den USA hat. Da stellt sich mir natürlich die Frage, in wie weit der US-Kongress dann überhaupt dafür zuständig ist? Mark Zuckerberg hat den Abgeordneten allerdings versichert, dass er Libra nicht starten möchte, solange er nicht die Zustimmung von allen Regulierungsbehörden der USA erhalten hat.

Ich denke, dass nicht der US-Kongress über Libra entscheiden wird, sondern letztendlich wird es von der Trump-Regierung und den Regulierungsbehörden abhängen, ob Libra nächstes Jahr an den Start gehen wird oder nicht. Was denkt ihr? Wird Libra an dem regulatorischen Gegenwind scheitern oder doch noch zugelassen, um nicht von China überholt zu werden, die derzeit an einem eigenen Libra-ähnlichen Stablecoin arbeiten?

Mark Zuckerberg was asked about Libra and Facebook in the U.S. Congress and "grilled" with critical statements and questions. Is Libra now dead?

I watched almost the entire 6 hours, because I wanted to make myself a picture and I also find the debate very amusing. Actually Mark Zuckerberg didn't do so badly and you get a little sympathy for him as well as he tries to disrupt the financial system with Libra and explains cryptocurrencies to noob politicians.

On the other hand, not all congress members are as clueless as you might think, there were legit and good questions asked and some are even pursuing a pragmatic approach and do not want to stifle innovation.

One of the main criticisms, however, was that the Libra Association is based in Switzerland and not in the U.S. So the following question naturally arises: Is the Congress in charge to decide about Libra at all? Mark Zuckerberg assured, however, that he would not want to launch Libra until he had received the approval of all the U.S. regulatory authorities.

I do not think that the Congress will ultimately decide on Libra, but that it will rather depend on the Trump administration and the regulatory authorities whether or not Libra is allowed to launch next year. What do you think? Will Libra fail in the regulatory headwind, or will it still be allowed, to avoid being overtaken by China, which is currently working on its own Libra-like stablecoin?
