Learn

Hi. Today I'd like to tell you one thing that you already probably know. You should learn foreign languages. That's a fact. Why though? If you are reading this, that means you already know English -and isn't it enough today? I mean most people these days do speak it, don't they? Maybe. But not entirely.

Not only English

While indeed English is popular all around the globe. it isn't even close to being the most spoken language there is! It's only at the 3rd place, while 1st and 2nd are respectively Chinese and Spanish!

Really though. Learning new languages not only gives you more value on the job market, but it also opens some new doors for you. What do I mean by that?

First of all it lets you meet new people and truly understand them - their perspective, their history and their thinking. It's very enriching experiance.

Second of all it also allows you to become a new person, kind of. It's proven scientifically, that depending on what language we use, our personalities change. It's a fact. Why? I don't really know for sure, but I have a clue. Language is a mean of communication - of spreading and conveying ideas. Really. Language is not only words, words are actually just 'names' we gave to some ideas when we made then abstract!

If you learn new language you'll learn new 'ideas', or maybe same old 'ideas' made abstract in a different way!

Your world view will broaden greatly then.

So... Please, learn languages.

How?

Well, for starters I'd encourage you to do couple of things:

  1. Read - simple stories at first and all. Don't mind it if you don't understand things at first. Just look it up in the dictionary.
  2. Listen. Simple.
  3. Speak. Even simplier. Don't worry about accents. Just do it, no one will care if your pronounciation if off.
  4. Translate stuff - do this. Take a simple story (maybe sth for children?) and just ttranslate it. It'll not only teach you the language, words and so on, but it'll also show you how different two languages can be, why words have different weight in them, how different structures are used and why depending on the language, style of speaking is different.
  5. Learn new words. Did you know that 1000 words is enough for you to understand more than 80% of daily English speech? Amazing. For French it's even less - around 600 if I remember correctly.

How?

Getting to the point - you can learn new words quite conveniently through two apps that I encourage you to check out. It's way easier and simplier learning with them as they use various techniques to help you with studying.

##Memrise

##Duolingo

I won't take about them in detail as I'd like you to just check them out yourself. They're both great - which one should you use? Doesn't matter, just check which one you like - they both have it's own strenghts and weaknesses. I use both.

That's all.
