Buddhist pine with the botanical name podocarpus macrophyllus is a coniferous tree in the podocarpaceae family.

Also called yew plum pine, fern pine, and Japanese yew, it is native to southern Japan, southern and eastern China.

Cones are supported by short stems with two to four scales.

When ripe, the scales swell and become reddish-purple, fleshy, and berry-like.

These berries are eaten by birds, which disperse the seeds through their droppings.
