The Coronado National Memorial

The Coronado National Memorial

What a gem tucked away in the Huachuca Mountains in Southeastern Arizona! Turn off onto S. Coronado Memorial Drive which is half way between Sierra Vista and Bisbee along Arizona 92. The visitor center is about five miles in from Route 92. The park offers scenic vistas, hiking trails and even a cavern to explore. The best part is that it is all free of charge!

This park commemorates the journey of conquest that began in 1540. Fueled by tales of cities of gold several hundred Europeans and over 1000 Aztecs led by Francisco Vázquez de Coronado set out on a great exploration of the region. The expedition brought major cultural and biological changes which forever changed the lives of the indigenous peoples that had lived here for over thousands of years.

For me, I chose the scenic vistas for a photo op. I’ll leave the hiking trails for another time. The park ranger at the visitor center said that the gravel mountain road through Montezuma’s Pass was doable in my car. So off I went on my 3 mile white-knuckle adventure to the outlook at the top of the pass. Actually, the only bad spots were getting by the few cars coming in the other direction.

This is the Montezuma Canyon Road which takes you from the visitors center to the scenic overlook. What looks like a "V" in the center of the photo is one of the several switchbacks along the climb.

Thank you for your comments!

Wow, what beautiful photos! I love how you captured the different views all around you. The clouds are just amazing in each shot.

Thank you for your comments!

That looks like a fun drive. You got some really amazing photos of the views. Those clouds are really cool looking!

Thanks @derekrichardson! I appreciate your comments. I wish I was more agile, I would have loved to have done the hike up into the cavern there.

I'm so sorry I missed upvoting this post! What gorgeous photos!!

I tried calling you into MBC and to join MBC and MEPS in the group so you can get some exposure. Hugs.

Thanks Eagle! You are a sweetheart!

As you are Sweet, and I really wish you would come on board to get some of your work out here. There are new photography groups too. I'm not sure how serious you are about getting your work out on Steemit? LOL Maybe this is just a fun hobby for you. :)

I am serious about Steemit! I tried logging into https://steemdunk.xyz/ and it wouldn't let me. There's just a lot of noise out there. I am having a hard time filtering out what's true and what's just a money grab. So far steemitbloggers is the only one that I've found to work for me.

oh re steemdunk lol yeah i dont really like it, but i did get into it. yes tons of noise and i was getting you in at a time when things were not locked out. now one of them is closed. that said, glad you found something that works!

Thanks for helping out! That really means a lot. I really appreciate all your support!

No worries and anytime!!
