You're right, it was worldwide, that 504 is a server error, so it was affecting everyone.
Upvu.org is another alternative, but it is hosted too far away from me and using it is a real pain, the most of the times.
I saw ripple going up for a bit so it looks like you're right. But I have also noticed everything I buy goes down so if I buy a couple of ripple it might doomed
