I'm glad to join this wonderful space again, there’s something about the warmth of this community that makes sharing our thoughts feel effortless. it feels like gathering with friends around a table to chat about the little things that bring us joy.

‎This week’s topic is close to my heart: What genre of movies do you like most? Without much ado, I can say that action movies have always been movies I consistently watch, enjoy and recommend to friends. And when I say action movies, I don’t just mean explosions, fast cars, or CGI-heavy battles. What really entices me are traditional martial arts moves, especially Jet Li and Jackie Chan

‎It’s difficult to explain why I’m so drawn to them, but maybe sharing a few thoughts and personal experiences will help explain.

‎I remember being very small, perhaps around eight or nine, when I first watched “Drunken Master” starring Jackie Chan. It was an old cassette my uncle had brought home one evening. At first, I didn’t understand much, the subtitles were fast, and the fighting drew my attention because then I love watching movies that had something to do with first so I can learn the moves and use them with my friends. Soon, I found myself laughing. Jackie Chan’s style was unlike anything I’d seen before: it wasn’t just fighting, it was storytelling, comedy, and physical theatre all rolled int

‎Jackie’s movies taught me that action movies are not all about punches, about fight, about violence but it can be playful, creative, and full of heart. His stunts were so unique. Even as a kid, I could see the bruises, scars and sweat were real, and some other skills that made me respect him deeply.

‎Later, as I grew older, I discovered Jet Li and his style was different but equally captivating. Where Jackie Chan’s moves were chaotic and comedic, Jet Li was one of the actors that made my childhood fun. Watching him in “Fearless”, “Once Upon a Time in China” and "Twin Warriors" made me completely glued to the TV that I forgot about food.

‎A lot of Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies are not just about martial arts. It tells stories about protecting people that can protect or fight for themselves, going against injustice and corruption, and honouring family and cultural roots. It really tells us that real courage is not just physical strength or fighting skills but about standing up for the right thing, especially when it is not easy to do so.

‎When I watch these movies now, I notice details I missed as a child: the subtitles I wasn't able to read fast when I was small, and some parts which I wasn't able to capture clearly when I was much younger.

‎And beyond the stars themselves, I appreciate how these movies celebrate culture and history. Many martial arts movies are set in historical times, and through them, I learned about dynasties, customs, and ancient philosophies like Confucianism or Taoism. Even if some parts are fictionalized, they opened a window into worlds I knew little about.

‎Sometimes people assume action fans just want to see fights and nothing more, but for me, it’s always been deeper. The action draws you in, but the stories, humor, and characters keep you there. When Jackie Chan trips over a chair in the middle of a fight or Jet Li pauses to reflect before drawing his sword, those moments make the movie breathe — they make it human.

‎Another thing I love about action movies, especially martial arts films, is that they can bring people together. Growing up, my family rarely agreed on what to watch. Comedies felt too silly for my dad, romance and Indian movies were boring to my brothers, My grandma was confused with sci-fi. But action movies? Everyone could enjoy them. My brothers would cheer for the big kicks, my parents would laugh at the funny scenes, and even my grandma admired the discipline and skill of the fighters.

‎Watching these films was more than entertaining. I'll watch it over and over again without getting tired of it. We would keep it simple, just some popcorn or maybe roast a few ears of corn with ice cream and gather around our old TV. We will all laugh, cheer at every successful punches.

‎Those moments meant so much more than just watching a movie. They’re memories that still warm my heart, and it’s why action films feel so comforting to me even now. It’s like every punch and every joke takes me right back to those carefree times with family and friends.

‎It’s so hard to say that any martial art movie is my favorite, because both Jet Li and Jackie Chan are all good in their own way, bring something special and are just so much fun to watch. But if I had to recommend some, I’d say go with “Drunken Master” if you’re a Jackie Chan fan and “Fearless” if you like Jet Li.

‎“Drunken Master” really shows off Jackie’s playful side: the humor, the clever fight scenes, and how he turns even a serious moment into something entertaining. Especially when he's drunk. On the other hand, “Fearless” really shows a different side of Jet Li, there’s something almost poetic about the way he moves. He doesn’t just fight; there’s a calm, focused energy in every motion that draws you in. Both Jackie Chan and Jet Li are fun.

‎These days, lot of action movies are not as before. There's a lot more computer effects than real actions. But even with all the flashy tech, what really draws me in is when a film still has that realness, the punches, the skills , the creativity in how the fights are very speculating.
‎That's why movies like the "Ip Man" series with Donnie Yen mean so much to me. People don't fight for no reason. Ip Man fights for his family, for dignity, for his people when they are deprived of their rights. And you can feel the realness in every scene. The choreography is smart, the moves feel honest, and every fight tells a part of a bigger story.

‎These days, a lot of what we watch is a bit empty. More of film tricks than the realness But action movies that have a real heart remind me why stories matter in the first place — they don’t just entertain us; they inspire us and bring people together, no matter where we’re from.

Before I end this comment, I’d love to invite @Samuelbrilliant, @Imohmitch, and @mr-peng to share what movie genre they love most and why.
