Adeventures of Sukanya and Kalyani Part 2: "Wild Goose Chase"

Sukanya had much affection for Kalyani although Kalyani was quite cantankerous at times. And was very disappointed when Kalyani told her that she was going away for three months. Kalyani told Sukanya the news without the slightest indication that she would miss her friend or even cared about her at all.

Sukanya was aware of this in Kalyani on other occasions. It was just the way she was with everyone. You could say Kalyani was self-centered and selfish and inconsiderate but it was more than that. Kalyani was absorbed in her meditation on Radha and Krishna and much of the time oblivious. At least that is how Sukyana saw her. Kalyani's association could be quite jarring at times if someone was trying to maintain a friendship with her, that is.

Kalyani was seeking adventure and change and this was an opportunity to also make a little money. But it wasn't a necessary venture. Just something to do that Kalyani thought would be fun. She was always trying to find fun. For her, Krishna and fun were the same things. Whether that meant swimming in a lake, eating ice cream, going to a movie or eating chocolate. If it was fun it was Krishna.

So this looked fun. Everything would be provided for her by the owner of the business. All she had to do was ring the cash register. What could be better?

Sukanya really wished Kalyani would not go on this trip. There were fun and exciting things going in the next few months right there where they live. There was no need to make such a huge venture. But she accepted Kalyani's decision and wished the best for her friend. A day before Kalyani was to leave and was in the process of packing and getting things in order Sukanya visited her with a little goodie bag of snacks to eat on the long trip.

kalyani took the bag with a swipe of her hand, put it on the table and sat Sukanya down and proceeded to yell at her for over an hour. She found all sorts of faults with Sukanya. But especially how Sukanya did not know how to associate with devotees.

Sukanya sat there amazed. She had come to wish her friend well and a successful and safe trip and Kalyani was ranting and raving about all the things she finds "wrong" with Sukanya. Sukanya actually found the whole thing very amusing. Although totally bizarre.

Sukanya thought my friend does not do well with separations. She must have developed some survival techniques along the way for protecting herself from feeling anything and just covers it with anger.

Sukanya did have to admit the one about not knowing how to associate with devotees was a little bit of a sting. She was never very good at social interactions. But amazingly that had served her well in insulating her from entanglements which freed her to go deeper into a relationship with the Lord.

Kalyani was a trip. In the business world, they say, "You learn the most from your toughest customer." She was definitely a tough customer.

After a few days, Sukanya sent a message asking how things were going and was everything alright. A reply came back that it was no fun there. Kalyani had found herself surrounded by artificial life in a business environment, far away from the garden, trees and flowers and small wildlife creatures which was her accustomed environment.

Sukanya found it amusing. And had to chuckle. Kalyani was really quite funny. Although Kalyani may have thought she was in control of her life and making good decisions it was so often shown to her that what she thought and what was the actual case were very often two entirely different things. Kalyani had gone on yet another wild goose chase.
