Cheonjeyeon Waterfall --- 천제연 폭포
This three-story waterfall is a source of local legends and there are wildlife and rare plants in the surrounding forest.
As one of the many attractions in the Seogwippo area, Cheonjeyeon Waterfall is a stunning three separate waterfalls, beginning in a cave that looms high above the ravine to flow into the sea. The paths that pass through the jungle to various locations of the natural landscape allow you to see waterfalls at all different stages.
At the highest point, you will see the water spots out of the top of the cave, before falling down into the first waterfall as high as 72 feet (21 meters) to the 'The Goddess Pool'. This pool is so called because it is believed that seven nymphs descend at night to bathe here. For years the community bathed in this pool or drank the water in the belief that the pool water could cure the disease, but the pool is now closed. If you really want to swim, come here in May even year at the Festival of Seven Bidadari when the pool is opened for one day only for visitors who want to soak.
From the Pool of the Goddess, the water continues its journey and the most beautiful plunge as high as 98 feet (30 meters) to a river and then to the ocean.
Those interested in the plant world should observe endangered species of reeds and ferns that live in crevices near the river. Ferns are structured like forks and reeds solipnan are some plants that love the humid climate around the river.
Head up the valley to find the Seonimgyo Bridge that connects visitors to the Jungmun Tour complex. These seven nymphs according to legend carved on the side of the bridge. Here you will find also Cheonjeru Tower in the shape of octagonal. The painting beside the tower relates the legend of the seven nymphs.
Cheonjeyeon Waterfall is 40 minutes drive south of Jeju City. To enter, buy tickets from Yeomiji Botanic Garden and follow the path through the forest. To see the waterfall at the most beautiful time, travel after the rainy season. This waterfall is open every day throughout the year.
