Steemian Storybook No.11 : The Curse of Knowledge

In 1990, American psychologist Elizabeth Newton done interesting experimental work. First, she divided participants in two groups: A group and B group. A group knocked on a table by the musical rhythm and B group listened to the knocking sounds and guessed the music. Elizabeth Newton gave 120 pieces of music which every american knew to A group and let them knock the table. How much correct answer did B group make? B group had made only 3 answers among 120.
What I have to catch on was not people could not guess title only with knocking sounds. Elizabeth Newton asked A group to guess how many correct title B group could make. A group said that B group might guess every title in 50%. Actually there was only tree right answer after the experiments.

What makes such a drastic gap between A group's guessing and result? With Elizabeth Newton's experiments, Chip Heath gave me an answer. Knowing something well, people could not imagine how they are when they do not know that. And people who know something and people who do not fail to communicate. It is defined as 'The Curse of Knowledge'. It occurs often when people regard what they know as not something special but common sense. Not only Elizabeth Newton's experiment, we can find 'The Curse of Knowledge' in our life. Between parents and children, husband and wife, boss and worker, teacher and student, people thinking opponents know what they know, people face situation that they could not understand opponents. Finally conflict and dispute arouse.

There is proverb: walk in someone's shoes. It means consider other people's position. In order to being free from 'The Curse of Knowledge' I have to listen to other people's saying. When friends do not understand my opinion, falling at 'The Curse of Knowledge', I have to lift a curse rather than criticizing them. After introspecting and communicating what I said. My friends know my knocking sounds are not a Morse code but one beautiful music.
