The Garden Is On It's Way
The season of growing is upon us. It's hard to believe that only a few short weeks ago there was nothing green in the yard and now things are starting to grow.
It has been so incredibly dry around here, sheer drought. At our house it's rained 1 time in two weeks. Even today it rained 5 minutes south of us, and 5 minutes north of us yet our yard stayed bone dry.
It's supposed to be like this for the next week or so yet as well, so it's been making for a lot of watering in the garden from the slough beside it.
Luckily we have a small pump and some hoses to water with. The last 3 years has all been either via rain or by buckets.
Yes, we watered our huge garden as seen below with buckets. Obviously this didn't make for a good garden if things got too dry or we weren't able to water everything in time as I've been pregnant or nursing a newborn the last 3 years, but no babies this summer!
Since we're really diving into the homestead lifestyle, we are going to be relying heavily on our garden to feed us over the winter. This will be a make or break for us, so we are putting extra tlc into the garden. We have to dig up some more dirt yet for potatoes and grains this next week for flour and feed for us and the chickens. But we are plugging away one day at a time.
