I am not sure if the best lover the not met one is but he might be high ranked. Sad? No, I don't think so. It depends on the "needs" and no one complains about being neglected. You can be kind and sweet if you feel good (if not you don't show) and there's room for imagination.
If best friends become lovers the best friend is lost if the relationship/loving part is over.
My best friend's wedding turned into a mess as well.
Also men seem to use everything they know about their ex in dirty ways in court so it's better to botmarry the best friend and keep the distance.

It is sad. But many examples to say is true.
... so it's better to not marry the best friend and keep the distance.
Or maybe to keep the alert about whoever you are married to.
"Please don't leave me" is not as powerful as "please leave me".
