Cashed out my first SBD!

To Steem or not to Steem full time?

It's been a year since I registered on Steemit and 8 months since I started writing here. I've been investing all my author rewards on Powering Up and my vote is worth something now!

However, since I've completed my studies, I'm at a point where I have to choose between Steeming full time or working at my field of study. (Mechanical Engineering)

I decided to give myself some time to come to a conclusion and write on Steemit till then. If it works out pretty well, I plan to stick to this.

Drawbacks?

I won't be able to power up 100% cuz I'll be covering all my expenses with the SBDs.

However, I've been reading some books on money management lately. One piece of advice that I will always follow comes from a book named "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Samuel Clason.

He suggests that before spending any money from your income, keep 10% of it aside for investments and spend the remaining 90% for expenditures. I will obviously be investing more than 10% on SP though (and reach my goal of 100,000 as soon as possible.)

If you're interested, I'll post a summary of what I have learnt from the book.

What about the title?

Yep, I cashed out my first SBD today and here's what I'll be doing with it.

I intend to buy a Saree for my grand mom with my first earnings. It is a traditional Indian garment worn by women. She's taken very good care of me ever since I was a child and I had decided early on to gift her something from my first earnings. I will post pictures soon.

I also have a few trips coming up in the first week of next month so I plan to fund my travels with it. I'll be posting some travelogues so that'll help counter the drawbacks.

Updates:

I'll be getting my motorcycle to Delhi soon and doing some rides with @bunnypunia and @touringdiaries. It's been a month without riding already and it sucks. A biker would understand my pain.

Plan to maintain a daily schedule to increase my productivity.

Noticed a decline in originality in my posts. My posts have become more formal and robotic compared to my older posts. Will try to make it more informal and real.

Started practicing a musical instrument to boost my creativity. It has died a bad death but will try bringing it back to life :P

That's it for today.

Sort:

Steeming full time is an anxious question for me too. Winters things are easy and laid back. But Summers are a crazy vortex with work.
I have yet to cash out. And I think I will ask you for guidance when the time comes.
Congratulations on your cash out. Your grandma will be thrilled.

By the way. "The Richest Man in Babylon" by George Samuel Clason is my money bible too in many respects. ...

Ascension, Richest Man of Babylon ... Hmmmm !! 😎

Hopefully I will have all the experience I need by then to be able to suggest you :D
I would like to suggest you another book on money. "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki.
Interesting to see what more do we have in common :D

:D :D :D ... Guess what. I read "Rich Dad Poor Dad" too... 😎
But I liked Babylon better. These are the only two non-fiction books on money matters I ever read.
I am a total Fiction & Literature person. :D

Oh! I used to read fiction too but now I have stopped reading them because they consume a lot of time. I try to read self-help books now. :)

😊... Yeah now I too am unable to read as much as I used do.
Mostly work, blogging and painting now 😊...
Life gets hectic for all of us ! 😊

Great going buddy, keep up the good work and lovely gesture to our very own family is something cannot be valuated ever... It will surely act as a blessing as well as inspiration in time to come. Best wishes for the rides to come...

Thanks a bunch! @devilonwheels
Yep let's spread some happiness! :D
Just got an idea for a great initiative.

Great bro, keep it up and do share the initiative, if I can be of help in anything noble, always happy to do it :)

The plan is to spread happiness with the help of Steemit. We could gift something occasionally with Steem earnings to the less privileged and make their day.

Great, that I am already doing. One post every week of mine is dedicated for DoW Causes and collating 8 weeks worth of SBDs to spread smiles in the Himalayas with DoW Causes.

That's really good to know you're doing it already!
Just checked out a couple of your blogs. You've put a lot of efforts into this! :O

Yeah, been years now spreading smiles in the Himalayas by Devil On Wheels platform in big way. My whole blog and travel community of DoW is dedicated to promote the locals of the Himalayas and benefit those who are in need not just by causes rather promoting them on our platform which has decent readership and presence. So, when I joined Steemit, the same had to be followed and supported. It feels really good to see young generation becoming a part of it. Best wishes for your efforts...

Yeah! I've got the links from your website on my biking groups a couple of times. Thank you so much. :)

Arn't you a daredevil :) Well you know you have my 100% vote to continue your adventure here on Steemit but I wish you great success whichever route you take in the long term!

Thank you so much Lucy. I know I can trust you 100% on that. :D

Pretty awesome that Steem is covering your expenses though. I have been doing the same powering up everything. I can’t wait till I have enough to take some out also and pay for a few things.

I would say definitely try to do both. Great post @wandereronwheels

Yeah! Gotta have a backup plan for the times when these cryptos go bearish.
Thanks for your suggestion. @bitdollar

Yea you are thinking smart. Anything can happen in this world :D

I personally think you should go full time on steemit and then perhaps go back to a regular job. I think it's good to take some time off to have some free time and work on cutting expenses. I think people tend to be busy and focus on making money and spending it and don't have time to look at ways to cut expenses. Is seems like you should be able to live on $1 or 2 sbd a day in India. I'd probably need about $5-10 sbd here in the USA.

Yep that's the plan. If SBD value goes down to 1 as per the plan, we will be looking at cashing out almost all the SBDs.

Lucky granny. I believe you can do both. Have a decent job in India but continue writing the blogs like now. Can't trust the crypto (Can't rely on steemit as your main job or source of income). Good luck. Your voting power is making a lot of difference especially to me and many others.

Yup. Steemit is a blessing in disguise. It's buying me some time to take a good decision.
Value of my vote is kinda small at the moment but I'm glad it's at least making a small difference. It is anytime better than 0.00$ which I had when I started. You should power up too. We are kinda early on this platform and 5 years down the line, it'll make a lot of difference to have decent amount of SP and voting power will have a good value.
Btw I am lucky to have her as my granny! :P

I'm following your journey to 100K ! I don't know if I'm gonna set the same goal, but keep inspiring us all @wandereronwheels!

I think you should keep doing that Thunderclap thing once every week or month. It's been getting some good attention and might reach some good level if done consistently.
Also, I will be inspirational only if I achieve it. So give it some time before calling me inspirational :P
Btw those were some really fun times during Steemfest in snooker club. Remember the guy who was tryin' to hit on your wife lol.

In fact, I am doing doing the thunderclap on a monthly basis! You could join Team Thunderclap at @thunderclap :)

Steemfest? I remember there was beer, quite a lot actually. Did you try to hit on my wife? I don't blame you, she is beautiful. I've gotten used to guys hitting on my wife, it's ok, it somehow oddly boosts my ego..

Sure, I'll check that out.
Naah not me. We three were chilling outside the snooker club when some guy who was attending Steemfest started hitting on her. I don't remember his username though. :P
He was so disappointed when he learnt she was your wife and went away walking. Fun scenes lol.

Check out the latest post and lemme know if any corrections. :)

your grandma would love your gift, i'm sure :)

It'll be a surprise for her! :D

Wow that's a nice one.
Hope you spend it well.
All hail steemit for benefits!

Oh its great :)
