Job Security is a MythsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #jobs6 years ago

Some days you walk into work and you don’t know what’s going to happen. Today, I find out that my hours are being cut by 20%, meaning I will only work 4 days a week instead of 5. I also was moved from salary to hourly.

Keep in mind, this is after I quit my part-time job and then my car broke down. Some people may look at this situation and think, oh shoot, that guys’ in trouble! 3 young kids and a wife to support? Yikes!

Yes, I understand that. But what also needs understood is that this is the season of change! We are being tested and tried because something amazing is coming around the corner. Something BIG.

But back to notion of job security... yeah... that’s a myth. Jobs aren’t secure. Not in the least. You could walk in tomorrow and be handed a pink slip (if they even hand those out anymore IDK) Your so-called “security” rests in the hands of your employer. So don’t buy into the lie that jobs provide security just because you are offered and insurance package and a 401k.

Anyways, I look at this event as a positive even though things are s little unknown at the moment. I’m trusting in God that his plan is greater than my own. Everything is working out accounting to his perfect will.

I’m going to have more time now to devote to blockchain projects and other things that get me excited. This is the season of change, and I’m about ready to be completely free and make my own schedule. My desire is to make an impact in the world while doing what I enjoy.

I’m going to take full advantage of my day off each week, as I will be focusing on furthering my pursuit of freedom and on the vision God is instilling inside of me. It’s an exciting place to be in as my back gets put up against the wall and I have no where else to turn. No safety net to keep me... well... safe.

Life is short guys. Life is short. Don’t spend it doing what you hate. Focus your attention on what interests you and causes you to COME ALIVE. Whatever that is for you, do it. We are only here for so long, we need to make each day count. -Ken

Everything happens for a reason my friend! I have many great friends whom have found their calling and success after changes like these. I often wonder how we hold back thinking we are not prepared for this but figure it out with the passion we have for providing for our families. I wish you the best of success!

Love reading your comments. Yes, this is a very exciting time and I believe it is necessary in order to transition smoothly into the next phase of our family's life.

Exactly man. We're only here for so long, like you said. I'm sure that God has big things planned for you, and often the challenges are what lead to the greatest opportunities of all. Stay strong as always!

He sure does!! I am definitely up for the challenge as I desire a life full of adventure. Everything for His Kingdom purposes.

Yessir, you got this man. I couldn't agree more.

Good advices! Good luck on your journey.

Great to have your support @aiuna :) You rock!

The only thing we can do is flow with the river. A lot of us are experiencing bad circumstances lately but i trust Life/God and myself to bring something valuable from these experiences.

So-called bad circumstances aren't necessarily bad, we just perceive them to be that way. In other words... that given negative situation may seem unfortunate at the time, but when that season is over we realize the reason why we were allowed to go through it. Often times, the bumps and bruises caused by hardships develop our character, causing us to become stronger and more resilient, preparing us for the calling or vision in life that we truly desire.

Thats true life is short need to do something awesome. Hahah and thats true job is never secure .

Steem projects is definitely something to consider @johnspalding.. it's risky, but a lot of things like job security are become less secure, and risk is spreading to parts of our society that were considered safe.

Very well said. Life is short. Do what you like.
And at times a forced move from your employer makes you rethink and achieve higher goals. Its a difficult decision to quit or cut short on an in hand job by yourself. But when you are forced out by the employer itself then you don't have a choice. That's exactly the fight back time.
There is another important point which I would like to make,
'Anything and everything in this world is replacable'. Nothing should be taken for granted.

Absolutely @blog-beginner. Time to break out the boxing gloves and fight for freedom! And yes, I appreciate each day that I am given. I also keep a journal where I actually write out the things I'm grateful for and the things that I want to see manifest themselves in my life. Glad you stopped by :)

I agree @kenmelendez and a lot of other things that some people consider "safe" or secure i.e. Pensions for Government Jobs, SSA for Seniors, Medicare, VA compensation for Veterans, SSDI, old fashioned businesses, are probably not!

At least you are possibly prepared for it with your large stake in Steem. I am trying to prepare too, and hope to get a 3,000 to 5,000 Steem stake before the end of 2019.

P.S. It's even possible that our bank deposits are not entirely secure, since banks only hold around 25% of our deposits, and loan the rest out!

Honestly, nothing is secure in this world besides Christ. He is the rock that I build everything upon and He'll never let me fall :)

I'm almost 60 now and had a 30 year accounting career. The longest position in all that time lasted 7 years and I have had over 100 different employers. I was sort of a trouble shooter for most of that time. I would go into a problem area, help them find and fix the problem, and then the job would be over.

Often people working in those places would ask me how I could stand such job insecurity. But for me, "it was what it was" and I made the best of it. I also learned to get recommendation letters when I was leaving because the companies failed often after I was gone and then all those people were out of work from their "stable" jobs.

A hint I will give you from this time, is that when "cost cutting" is a focus instead of growth, be very wary. LinkedIn is a good place to wallpaper your resume. For every company failing, others thrive.

Like you, I trust in God to provide. I keep doing what I think is working and try to limit the non-productive tasks. Bet of luck for this situation and it may be positive in more ways that you can know right now.

Yep, I am certain that God is calling me away from where I'm at now. Not sure where to but I know it will open up a world of opportunity for my family and also people who come into contact with us. Big change requires big levels of trust which are growing in us each day.
