Want To Write Better English? Get Grammarly

Ready To Post...?​​

You're writing a post on Steemit, in English. But you're not a native English speaker. You're almost ready to publish. But wait! Are you sure your grammar is good enough? Are there spaces where there shouldn't be? Is there an "is" where there should be an "are"? Will people decide not to upvote your post because the grammar is so bad it seems like you just copied and pasted from Google Translate?

Try Grammarly

You might want to try Grammarly. It's an app that checks your grammar, spelling, and punctuation as you type. It can help to fix a lot of common mistakes in your English writing. And if you click on the Grammarly icon, and then double-click on a word, it will show you some synonyms that you might want to use instead.

Grammarly Isn't Perfect

Grammarly does a pretty good job. But unfortunately, it isn't perfect. While I was testing it for this post, it missed a few mistakes that I put in on purpose. And, even more unfortunately, it seems like the mistakes it misses are some of the common ones that Japanese people make when writing English. Ahh! Maybe one day there'll be a grammar checker optimized for non-native speakers.

But at least it catches most mistakes. It won't make your posts perfect, but it will make them better.

Free And Paid Versions

Grammarly is free. But of course, there's a paid version that finds more mistakes. They're tricky, aren't they? I haven't tested the paid version, because who​ wants to pay for stuff online when we're moving into a world where we get paid to do stuff online?

Is There An App Like This For Japanese?

I'd love to have something like this for writing in Japanese. I'm sure I make a lot of mistakes. If you know of one, please let me know in the comments.
