The problem most Japanese people have with the word member is using it as a counter for people. The word member is not usually a counter. At least not if you want to sound more like a native speaker.
^{ほとんどの日本人がメンバーという単語の問題は、人の助数詞として使うことです。普通は「member」は助数詞ではない。少なくとももっとネイティブスピーカーのように聞こえたいなら。}

So what word should you use as a counter for people? Let me think...
^{それで、人の助数詞としてどのような言葉を使いましょうか？ちょっと考えさせてください...}

Hmm...

Umm...
^えーと

What was it?
^{何だったけ？}

Oh yeah, I remember! "People".
^{アッ、思い出した！「People」}

I can't believe I forgot that!

Member sounds natural when you're talking about clubs and other groups that are exclusive, hard to join, or unusual. With parties, schools, and teams we don't usually say member. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because there are more specific words that we usually use.
^{独占的、入会が難しい、または珍しいクラブや他のグループについて話しているときは、メンバーは自然に聞こえます。パーティー、学校、チーム、会社は、あまりメンバーとは言わない。なぜか分からない。たぶん普通に使うより具体的な言葉があるからかも知れません。}

A: There were ten members at the party.
^{パーティーには10人のメンバーがいました。}

A: There were ten people at the party.

👎 Members At A School

A: How many members are there at your school?
^{あなたの学校のメンバーは何人ですか？}

A: How many students are there at your school?
^{あなたの学校は何人の生徒ですか？}

👎 Members Of A Team

A: I'm a member of the football team.
^{私はアメリカンフットボールチームのメンバーです。}

^{私はアメリカンフットボールチームにいる。}

A: There are 42 players on the football team.
^{アメリカンフットボールチームには42人の選手がいます。}

👎 Members Of A Company

A: Some new members joined my company.
^{何人かの新しいメンバーが私の会社に入社しました。}

A: Some new people started working at my company.
^{何人かの新しい人が私の会社に入社しました。}
