Tokyo Skytree is one of the latest landmark to add to Tokyo sky line. At 634 meters, the tower is one of the tallest in the world. We went and passed by Tokyo Skytree many times but had never went up to the observatory decks. Most of our visits were spent shopping at the big shopping mall below.
The Skytree tower is new and modern, and always compared with the retro Tokyo Tower. Tourists are always asking the question "Which one to visit?", we recommend to visit both if you have the time. Each tower offers a different experience.
Tokyo Solamachi is the shopping mall at the base of Tokyo Skytree. Directly connected to the metro stations Oshiage and Tokyo Skytree station, this mall is very accessible.
Huge variety of Japanese and western food are available here. There are also a wide selection of souvenirs and designer boutiques. At the outdoor area that overlooks the Skytree above, you can usually find special events and playgrounds for the kids.
There’s also an aquarium and planetarium in the mall area. A great place with many activities to spend the whole day for everyone.
Asakusa is just nearby and you could do a day trip to visit the Senso-ji temple area and Tokyo Skytree too. Access to the Skytree via the dedicated Tokyo Skytree station, operated by the Tobu Skytree line, or through Oshiage station with the Hanzomon or Asakusa subway lines.
