Carly Barret, the king of drums.

Previously, we have talked about the fact that in reggae and in any genre there is an endless number of emblematic characters beyond a soloist or vocalist, we have presented important artists in the interpretation of wind instruments such as Rico Rodriguez and Dean Frazer. Now it's the turn of the drums, which are the main exponent of percussion used in reggae and which have interpreters who have been of great relevance in the history of this genre.

Carlton Barret, was born in Kingston on December 17, 1950, his career began with his brother Aston, who played bass, this dua was called Soul Mates in the late 60's. Carlton was also part of the band Hippy Boys. Carly, as Carlton was called, was an essential part of the band The Wailers, and in which he is remembered with his song "War" performed by Bob Marley in late 1970, being part of the smash hit album "Kaya" with IsThis Love and No Woman No Cry.

His drums activate every fiber of my body, making each joint move as if using the drumsticks on the Hi-hat and making the bass drum and snare sound. For me, the drums show the main sound of reggae.

Here's a Carly DrumCover for your enjoyment

Yes mon.

Drums are unique.
Years and years ago my son was downstairs banging on
some old paint cans and a pot. Banging and making some
unbelievable, horrendous NOISE. Took it upon myself to further his music
talents. Shopped around and gifted him a set of used Yamaha
beginner drums. It relieved the pressure on my ears and I
didn't have to pretend that is sounded good.
Anyway, its a real gift to be able to play like this.

Enjoyed your post.
