Traveling to Egypt and seeing Tutankhamun’s golden mask in person is an experience that goes beyond mere awe. The Egyptian National Museum, one of the world’s most renowned museums, officially opened its doors to the public in 1902. Known for its extensive collection of artifacts from the Pharaonic era, it has earned the affectionate nickname “Pharaoh Museum” among Egyptians.

Stepping into the museum feels like crossing a threshold into ancient history. The golden mask of Tutankhamun, with its intricate craftsmanship and gleaming inlays of precious stones, is undoubtedly the star of the collection. Discovered in 1922 in the young pharaoh’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings, it’s a breathtaking symbol of ancient Egypt’s artistry and power. But the wonder doesn’t stop there. Beyond the mask, the museum houses over 120,000 artifacts, each telling a story of a civilization that thrived thousands of years ago.

Walking through the dimly lit halls, you encounter towering statues of pharaohs, delicate jewelry, and everyday items that offer a glimpse into lives long past. The mummies, preserved with astonishing care, lie in silent dignity, their presence a haunting reminder of mortality and legacy. Every corner reveals something new—whether it’s the detailed carvings on a sarcophagus or the faded paint on a wooden chariot.

What strikes you most isn’t just the objects themselves, but the weight of time they carry. The museum isn’t merely a building; it’s a portal to an era that shaped human history. Visiting it in person, you realize the golden mask is just the beginning—every artifact whispers its own tale, leaving you humbled by the depth of Egypt’s past.

When I saw the title. I thought that I have to come and see for myself how does it look like from the inside.

I am sure that Egypt is one of those unique places to visit. But, I have not planned a trip there yet.
