La notizia della morte di Papa Francesco non e' giunta inaspettata, bastava vederlo negli ultimi giorni, sofferente e affaticato per capire che l'epilogo era vicino.
Non aspettatevi da un non credente come il sottoscritto una biografia entusiasta del personaggio pero' una cosa mi sento di dirla forte e chiara.
Ci ha lasciato una delle poche figure decenti e presentabili del miserando panorama internazionale.

Una delle pochissime voci rimaste che parlava al popolo con una voce che il popolo capiva, forse per questo piaceva poco alla Chiesa ufficiale.
Non posso neanche immaginare cosa pensasse il Papa del decerebrato che ora guida il suo paese natio; L'Argentina.
Sono quasi sicuro che ora, visti i tempi che stiamo vivendo, ci rifileranno un Papa conservatore e retrogrado.

Su questo spazio pero' voglio ricordare il rapporto di Bergoglio con Cuba.
Francesco visito' Cuba nel 2015 per la prima volta, terzo pontefice a mettere piede sull'isola, dopo il polacco ed il tedesco.
Lo accolse Raul, col cardinale Ortega arcivescovo dell'Avana, era in atto una sorta di riavvicinamento fra Cuba e gli Usa (andato a finire poi come sappiamo...) il Pontefice disse ;"Incoraggio i responsabili politici a proseguire su questo cammino e a sviluppare tutte le sue potenzialita', come prova dell'alto servizio che sono chiamati a prestare a favore della pace e del benessere dei loro popoli, di tutta l'America, e come esempio di riconciliazione per il mondo intero".
In una giornata piena di sole

Francesco venne accolto dal sole dall'Avana, lui il primo Papa latino americano della storia.
Al suo arrivo rivolgendosi a Raul disse; "Vorrei chiederle, signor Presidente, di trasmettere i miei sentimenti di speciale considerazione e rispetto a suo fratello Fidel".
Fidel che incontrera' prima di ritornare a Roma portandogli in dono due libri di Don Alessandro Pronzato, un libro e due CD con le omelie di Padre Armando Llorente il gesuita morto in esilio a Miami che Fidel aveva avuto come insegnante nel collegio di Belen.

Il Papa concluse la sua messa in una plaza de la Revolucion gremita di gente con alle spalle l'immagine illuminata del Che dicendo; "Chi non vive per servire, non serve per vivere".
Il viaggio coincise con i 100 anni di proclamazione della Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre come partona dell'Isola.

Bergoglio torno a Cuba l'anno successivo per incontrarsi con il partiarca di Mosca Kirill in una sala dell'aeroporto dell'Avana, Cuba fu teatro di una storia riconciliazione fra due chiese che, nei secoli, spesso hanno parlato linguaggi differenti.

Possiamo dire che Cuba ha perso un amico, che aveva collaborato a rendere migliori i rapporti fra l'isola e la Santa Sede, rapporti che hanno spesso portato vantaggi reciproci.

The news of Pope Francis' death did not come unexpectedly, it was enough to see him in the last days, suffering and tired to understand that the epilogue was near.
Do not expect from a non-believer like me an enthusiastic biography of the character but I feel like saying one thing loud and clear.
He has left us one of the few decent and presentable figures of the miserable international panorama.

One of the very few voices left who spoke to the people with a voice that the people understood, perhaps for this reason the official Church did not like him much.
I cannot even imagine what the Pope thought of the brainless man who now leads his native country; Argentina.
I am almost certain that few now, given the times we are living in, will foist upon us a conservative and retrograde Pope.

In this space however I want to remember Bergoglio's relationship with Cuba.
Francis visited Cuba in 2015 for the first time, the third pontiff to set foot on the island, after the Polish and the German.
Raul welcomed him, with Cardinal Ortega, Archbishop of Havana, there was a sort of rapprochement between Cuba and the USA (which ended up as we know...) the Pontiff said; "I encourage political leaders to continue on this path and to develop all its potential, as proof of the high service they are called to provide for the peace and well-being of their peoples, of all America, and as an example of reconciliation for the entire world".
On a sunny day

Francis was welcomed by the sun from Havana, he the first Latin American Pope in history.
Upon his arrival, addressing Raul, he said; "I would like to ask you, Mr. President, to convey my feelings of special consideration and respect to your brother Fidel".
Fidel whom he will meet before returning to Rome bringing him as a gift two books by Don Alessandro Pronzato, a book and two CDs with the homilies of Father Armando Llorente, the Jesuit who died in exile in Miami, whom Fidel had had as a teacher in the college of Belen.

The Pope concluded his mass in a Plaza de la Revolucion packed with people with the illuminated image of Che behind him saying; "He who does not live to serve, does not serve to live".

The trip coincided with the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre as the partona of the Island.

Bergoglio returned to Cuba the following year to meet with the partiarch of Moscow Kirill in a room at the airport in Havana, Cuba was the scene of a history of reconciliation between two churches that, over the centuries, have often spoken different languages.

We can say that Cuba has lost a friend, who had collaborated to improve relations between the island and the Holy See, relations that have often brought mutual benefits.
